Electronics

Started working on the electronics. Lighting and sound. Steam Whistle and Calliope.
I know the speaker boxes are a little hokey😂😂

    Hi Doug,
The Video link to YouTube was on the post that shows the boat illuminated? Here it is again. Let me know if you can't open it.
The fusing is on the main board. I have not installed any suppression as it hasn't seemed to cause a problem on my tests. Time will tell

Mt Washington

The Electronics are pretty much complete.
Everything can be controlled from the Transmitter, Turnigy 5 Channel.
Except for the 3 volt running lights. I was not able to get them to operate from my Multi Switch.
The difficulty with the electronics is because of the various voltages involved. 14.7 for the motor and ESC. 9v for the sound. 12 to 14 for cabin lighting, 3v for the running lights. I was able to run the cabin lights at 9v. i was able to achieve the voltage difference with a step-down board.
i had to use a 3v batt for the running lights? I'm pretty comfortable with electronics, but this one has me baffled so i took the separate 3v battery route.
All manual Switches are located under the hatch which I made operational'
(It gets hot down next ti the boiler the boys need all the ventilation they can get!!) As is with the open windows😂😂
Still a way to go before completion.

Mt. Washington

Added a few extras to the vessel.
Brace, to keep the drive belt taught as the hull flexes too much.
Hindsight would be a larger plywood base for the motor.
Next, i installed bulkheads around the hatchways to the bilge, as the vessel has such low freeboard.
(Keep her from sinking when the decks are awash😂😂)
I am seriously considering a bilge pump. As I installed on the Typhoon.

    Thanks Cash,
The low freeboard is a problem. I installed Bulkheads around the Hatch openings to the bildge to address that problem. It wasn't difficult to build, just time consuming. The Typhoon was harder.

Still working on the Rigging.

Rigging is going slowly.
When seizing the ends I have been using copper wire, as it stays in place.
I have the upmost respect for the mates that rig sailboats. an incredibly tedious task,
but incredibly rewarding😊😊😊😊
Rigging the Mt Washington is simplistic compared to sail.

Rigging Finished

Finally finished all of the Rigging, Lifeboats included.
I know you mates that rig sail boats are saying "What's the big deal?"😂🤣😂🤣
Waiting for the smoke machine.
It's coming from you neck of the woods, Stephen. 👍👍
Gotta move on to the Bluefish😊

Hi Trev, and that really is a great side-wheeler that you have just completed, the paint job and side wheel covers are a work of art. Out of curiosity does the Walking Beam move did you motorise it? Plus if the general consensus of opinion is that it is difficult to fit a steam engine into, that would be reason enough for me to have a go. Mind, I reckon a stern-wheeler would be less of a problem on the installation front. Anyway, you are doing a great job and seem to have an assembly line set up considering the speed of your builds. Thanks for the compliments on my harbour and boats, yes they are all steam and it is very addictive, once you have built and sailed a few you are on the hook. Regards, Gary.

    Hi Gary,
    Thanks!
The paint job on the paddle boxes was actually an accident. I was wiping down the face with alcohol, forgetting that alcohol will wash latex paint. I liked the result so, I mirrored it on the other side.
Hey, even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes😂🤣😂
    The Walking beam is operational.
It also has Calliope, whistle, running lights, cabin lights, waiting for the smoke generator.
I feel the way you do; No, is not an answer.
The problem with the Mt Washington, is the access to the bilge. I felt steam would be more of a headache than it was worth. However, I do believe it could be done.
I do want to try a steam vessel, similar what you have built.
