Russian K100D waterjet work boat project
Made some new couplings for the motor to jet unit yesterday, and fitted the jet unit. Messy job, as there needs to be a lot of silicone plastered around. better too much than too little, as when it's in, it's in, and a big job to get it out. One area of concern is between the jet and diverter box, as there is not much of the jet tail inside the box, plus the silicone made it slippery and wanting to pop out, instead of sticking in the taper as it did without. This made the jet mounting/grille holes hard to line up, so it got a bit messy.
The couplings are made from aluminium, and turned down to 1mm over the internal diam of the silicone tube. The tube is kept from slipping by rough splines carved with a sharp tool, indexing the chuck manually, (rough, but it works) and once together the ends of the tube are held tight with small cable ties.
It would be better if there was more room to use a longer bit of tube for it to be more flexible, but there is only 25mm to play with. Runs quite smoothly, but not that quietly, due to the rubbish bearings which come with the jets. They tend to scream a bit at high revs (12,000 +) due to the excessive clearance, (forgot I was going to change them for NMB bearings.)
Just the reverse duct outer nozzles to fit better and to be siliconed (into the ducts) and epoxied to the hull, then it can have the basic tank test. Motor and jet were tested in the sink in a bowl, and it pumps well.
Also updated the servo savers with springs.
