Steam Punk recycle ♻️ project

A slight deviation for the moment from HMS Nelson. With so many cartons/containers and waste plastic around, I thought I'd have a go at a Steam Punk submarine. Not sure which route I'll take wether it'll be static or rc. Any name suggestions?

Names suggested

Thanks for those who've suggested a "name" and for further research material into how the proposed vessel might take shape. I have an idea and find that Pinterest has also been of use..
Just needed a distraction away from all the brass etching on HMS Nelson.

It floats!!

Well managed a little bit more today. As I originally posted, I'm trying to make this project from as much recycled ♻️ pieces I can find. Early day's and not resorting to dumpster diving yet 😂.
So firstly started with 2 slim fast containers, liberally coated with pva and bolted together for extra strength. Placed some good old fashioned lead sheet inside for weight and stability, tested in my homemade water tank for weight distribution and leaks. All good so far. Wrapped in black gaffer tape for added watertightness.
So to recount: The slimfast containers had reached their expiry date and so acquired these, securing bolts came from a property I was helping to clear out as did the tape and lead weight. Other parts for possible use are the plastic packaging from pork pies and cakes. On a roll at the moment 😊

Now thats what I call modelling.
Reminds me of the Late Martin555.
Your talent will overcome any obstacles.
Keep it up shipmate, cheers Colin.

I'm not sure yet where you're going with this, but then I'm not so sure you are either Doogle😉 Steampunk Ad hoc, luv it👍 Awaiting developments with great interest.

As with Colin your project immediately reminded me of our dear departed friend Martin555, who sadly unexpectedly passed away a few days before you joined us.
He left big boots to fill. Here's a couple of links to his Steampunk Pike and some pics of the building. His preferred building materials were yoghurt pots and ice cream tubs😉
    Might give you some inspiration.
Sadly we never learned if he made it dive.🤔
    Cheers, Doug😎

Planking

A little bit more this afternoon, using the veneer strips that formed the edge of school wardrobes that the college were throwing out. Thought that someday they would be useful 😊. Aperture cut for the motor and esc plus rudder servo. Prop shaft in place, will need adjustment as too long at present and a suitable motor from the spares box. Again this will be a "chuck out " from the college science department, so far so good with the recycling/upcycling.

Recycling restarted

Well I got back onto my recycling steam punk this afternoon after finishing off HMS Nelson. Not much progress to report as I keep all this build so far in my head 🤔. Anyway, started to make a deck / access area again out of wooden venetian blinds and some scrap 2mm birch ply all courtesy of the college skip from when I worked there. Wanted to make something a bit different to house the prop shaft, so currently using the top of a squirty cream can masked of and sprayed orange 🍊. I'll see how it looks when dry, not sure about the front finish yet, but I found a Costa coffee top which sort of fits so a potential idea 😀. Hopefully will be able to progress more tomorrow.

More recycling in progress

Well the pilot's cockpit has been completed. Construction comprised of a yoghurt tub, cleaned of course, a "discarded " Polly Pocket figure found languishing in the loft, and the dashboard from a toy jeep suitably cut and shaped to fit. Some black strips for glazing bars which were cut from the plastic sheets that are used for floor coverings when decorating. A few studs encircle the cockpit and the sides (just liked the look). Now starting on the skids, basically the main supports are constructed from an old plastic model stand and 2 effervescent tablet tubes. Starting to take shape and so far the idea's in my head are working 😀

"She's got leg's "

Managed to spend a bit of time back on recycling ♻️ 😀. Had a change of plan from my original idea and found some stainless steel handles lurking in the garage. Dug out an old prop for the motor, fitted a pulley wheel 🛞 onto the prop shaft, the idea being of a free turning something or other. Making it up as I go along but then that's the fun of this project, in-between Genesis, Nelson and whatever else I'm tinkering with

Pulleys, wheels etc

No photos as such in case it all goes "south ". First attempt at linking the pulley wheel on the prop shaft to the "thingy bob" yet to be devised. Materials used include plastic pipe/ marker pen lid, a golf tee, some sort of plastic meccano and a piece of formed wire. Presently drying and waiting to be painted 🎨. Then assembly and photos 📸 to follow if my plans work. Otherwise it's back to the drawing board 😂
