Update

Added home made anchors plus chain. Adding ECM antennas n waveguide. Borrowed grandsons 3 D printer. So far I have it connect to my pc. Next is get a file or hand draw parts for it. Hope to work In parallel with 1:96 model is my Garcia 1:350 scale. Creole Queen is still waiting fir me to finish rails n touch up paint trim. I’ve been selling off some ships n aircraft to make space n move Garcia’s back into work room. Lots to do. Too bad I have to do actual work inbetween for income.

Finally got 3D printer going

The USN DE 1040 Garcia boat davits my first ever 3D part. Needs some trimming n sanding to get spruce off. This is the new way to build. Loving it.

Pic after trimming and pile of trim junk.

Trying to make 2nd pair I didn’t write down the scaling numbers so I’m trial n error get the second pair correct. Almost got it I think. I think I messed with scaling to get it about 60 mm high. Then printed., when I printed my second pair I didn’t see it reset back to smaller size. Learn by doing. Next step is doing the radars n guns design. I still need my doors

Printed ASROC

Got the scale right and it printed well. Once cleaned up I did a primer. Working on 5 inch gun now. Another hour n 49 min I’ll have my first gun. One more after that. The ASROC took 6 hours. I checked every hour to make sure feed line wasn’t getting kinked. Pair of bollards took 15 min each.

I’m building a new n better spool holder as payment fir grandson loaning me the printer. Other wooden outboard boat hill fiberglassed n ready to paint.

Getting more done fro 3 d printer

Need to start painting above water line. Added sps10 radar ASROC and guns. Just printing doors. Found they need to print vertically to get it to work otherwise it doesn’t put material in right place. Railings are next I might use etched or the brass drilled ones. Need to find Sps 40 radar n mk56 radar. One place that has it, monkey something, stopped selling it has too many orders. Still a lot of work left but you can see progress. My 18 inch one is next to 5 ft one in pic. I’m looking at programs that digitize to make the stl 3D files. Anyone have software to share for sip parts?

De 1040 update

Tom’s model works just received 1:06 rails. Niw to find time to put them on the ship. I also ordered the safety nets for heli deck. I haven’t followed up on them but will now. Once done I can redo painting and maybe finish the ship I’ll probly see scaleshipyard in LA in January. I’m hoping to pick up some small stuff like decals. Still can’t find a SPS 40 I like. The 3 d printing has helped. I need next is to be able to draw or scan to make stl files. I have a flashforge adventurer 3. Love it
