Boys will be Boys I guess My fellow model boat club members will say I've gone to the dark side with a speed boat. Replace rudder, speed control, Transmitter , receiver , battery & motor mount , I also needed to get into the hull & find a away to keep it together & water resistant . I know The photo of King Charles isn't model boat related but Canada has changed portrait on our change got a quarter a few day's ago for 2024

I was designated to go and see a donation of model boats not dissimilar to this one. I took them on in good faith there were 7 or8 of them. The lady had been told they were worth £50 each!!!!!

On checking them over they were all broken and not worth restoring, the batteries all failed and the chargers were not much use outside of what they were sold for. No one made any offers for them and they were all returned as un-saleable.

When I was in 6th grade, I was a little luckier than Roy. On my way to the school bus stop, I saw what looked like a Japanese toy power boat, all gunned up in some spray can dark green in a trash can. It was about 16” long.

I grabbed it out of the trash can, ran home and stuck it in the garage, then ran back to the bus stop.

When I got home, I checked it out. Looked like it had been a cabin cruiser with a battery powered motor. The cabin was gone, but the motor, prop shaft, prop and rudder were there. So I sanded off all the green spray paint, found a nice cruiser to model in a boating magazine, added some lights and the cruiser superstructure with balsa, and it became a very nice pond sailer. That was around 1956 or 57, so there was no way for me to R/C it.

Didn’t mean to kidnap the Bat Boat thread, but that last post kicked up some memories.
