I am finally just getting going on the "short kit" of the Naxos fishing boat from China. I call it "short" because there are no instructions (posted somewhere on the web) and only a minimal amount of parts, but the fiberglass hull is beautiful. And the laser cut pilot house and deck parts (what there is of them) are really really sweet. However, a huge amount of kit-bashing is in the offing on this one!
As a side note, on a personal level. I am heading on a cross-country trip for a few weeks and it is always my habit to leave a project undone so I have something to look forward to when I get back. Call it habit or superstition...it's just me.
👍😂

BTW, this will be a fine looking vessel when complete. If it were my build I would heavily weather it. Fish boats are not showroom clean. They are worked hard & IMHO should reflect it for authenticity.
Hi Gang! Back from our 7202 mile road trip and truly happy and thankful that all went well despite the horrid driving these days...all over the country. We took our time heading west, dodged the wildfires and took a slow drive through glorious Yellowstone. After a wedding in Oregon we blasted home in 4 drive days of 844, 777, 757, and 622 miles. Yes, Mary and I are road warriors...or masochists! Take your pick.
😂
So...once the car was unpacked, and the laundry done, and the fridge restocked, I jumped back into the Naxos.
I have installed the rail posts and fore guard rails. The fore guard rail plywood took a bunch of hot water warping and (as you may notice) flipping as the printed posts on the supplied plywood parts have no relation whatsoever to the die-cut post locations!!! I also had to carve a block for the bow as the plywood was impossible to round the corner. I know you folks will forgive me.
😂 😉
Good Lord what a mess! Paint will forgive these ills...I hope!
But the work continues.
More to follow!

Well maybe it’ll work out…

But, be aware this is just about everything that comes in the kit from China. There is a rudder, stuffing box, and a motor mount, but that’s it.
Going to take weeks to fit this gal out.
😬

You have an opportunity to do many things with this boat. No one says you have to follow any specific plans. It just has to please you. If the bulwark is not good, put a railing instead. You could dump the entire superstructure and make it into trawler/yacht. Let your imagination go wild.
HI there Commodore! Truth be told I've always had a pet project on my wish list. And this is it, from the legendary prime-time TV cartoon "Jonny Quest." The Quest Research Vessel. Certainly a major refit that would require all the skills I have; what there is of them! Here's two pix...Not much to go on!
Some fixes on the rails. They shorted me on piano wire, but luckily had some spares in my wood and metal stash box. The die-cut tabs on the pilot house will have to be filled and sanded. Not to mention the double interlocking diamond designs. Sheesh! The primer was done to expose them even more. Also, I might mention that there was no cradle supplied with the kit, not even a rudimentary one. So, will have to get going on that too. Let the filling and shaping begin...

I have shelved the Naxos for a bit and roped myself into airbrushing these stencils onto these tip camping cups as a wedding favor for my son's wedding on the September 7th...160 of them!
The things we do for our kids!!!!
Cannot wait till this part of the whole event is over.
