SG&K 1920 Gentlemans Runabout Mk2

Hi All
I have started my redesigned runabout by increasing the length to 860mm. The motor and ESC will move to under the removal dash for better weight balance. increase the engine hatch to get the Lipo battery, receiver and servo into. This will be hidden by the deck planking and the original hatch size will get it back to scale look. Brushless motor 3639-1100kv,3S battery, 60A car ESC and 37mm 3 blade prop.

    Hi Canabus
I am watching your boat building with hot interest
I am building Chris Craft Riva from scratch so your boat is similar.
    Good luck

    Hi All
The stern is finally covered in with the help of my magnet handle clamps.
    Fibreglass resin, filled and sanded.
    Spray putty/primer undercoated.

Stern Deck and bottom painting

Hi All
Dry fitted the stern deck and as it was a warm winters day spray undercoated the bottom and sides.

Deck Planking

Hi Guys
Well I installed the aft deck and started planking.
The outer trim planking is in two pieces with a joint behind the windscreen because my mate gave me the veneer for free.
The idea is to hide the joints with black waterproof sandpaper used for the nonslip pieces shown on the plan.

Deck Veener

Hi All
After sanding the deck, I vanished with two coats that was OK.
A bit of light sanding between coats and added another coat.
Check it the next day and a lot of section on the bow the veneer had lifted !!!
The stern section is OK.
It's the outer veneer and it's all one piece, used the same glue.
Very disappointed!!!!

    Hi Canabus
Still not sure what Type of glue this is so difficult to give help on repair.
I suspect the filler may have been nearer the edge at the front, (prow) allowing the varnish to get into the joint. if it has delaminated perhaps you can ease the rest off and reapply or make a new piece.
Out of interest what type of glue is Tassie Tiger?

    Hi Canabus,

I had exactly the same problem with veneer lifting. Worked my bum off to get it all right, was happy. Then silly me thought it was a good idea to dry the glue in the stinking hot Australian sun. When I checked later in the day, the veneer had lifted and worse, warped. I managed to repair the whole thing but it came at a cost, I could no longer varnish my deck layer due to glue stains. On a happy note, my SGK is 95% complete and runs beautiful. Out of 10 models I have built, it's my favourite.
