Placing forward deck which is curved. Lots of rubber bands and some elastic cords hold the bent 1/16" plywood in place until the glue dries. Nothing fancy but it works! Will stay clamped for 24hrs minimum.
Hatch cover being built out of styrene plastic, it is very stiff and will hold the sail servo, rudder servo and rx beneath it. This design will become clearer in the near future.

The plywood for deck was trimmed at the edges and a curve cut at the rear of this deck. Glassed with some .75oz fiberglass using West System resin.
For the mast location I cut a 2" dia brass disk with a 5/8" hole. This hole accepts a 1/2" ID rubber grommet. The mast is tapered carbon fiber shaft salvaged from a fishing rod. Base is 1/2" OD. This brass disk will have several holes drilled into it to accept brass screws for securing it in place. Intent is to allow adjustment of mast location. Shown mocked up.
Mast set itemporarily in place for to allow for coordination of the sail servo arm and hatch location. Need to make sure that there will be no conflict between the boom vang and the sail arm.
Next step will be to cut away some cross bracing for the hatch framing members.
More to come, slow going as my shop is very HOT 😠 due to current heat wave here.

It cooled off in the garage shop so I was able to get some work done. First time in many days due to heat wave here.
Placing and glueing the aft deck. Cut a piece of 1 /16" plywood , 1/2" oversized all the way around. Using Titebond, I glued it the the hull, then got out my prized bucket of rubber bands. As you can see if you use enough rubber bands it will stay in place. The deck is arched slightly to help keep the deck cleared of water, not much of a problem with this boat as it is always tacking and heeling over.
Once cured I will cover with my light weight glass cloth and fiberglass it. I am looking forward to getting past the itchy fiberglass sanding phase.

Removed all of the rubber bands and clamps after a 24 hour glue cure. The 1/16" plywood overlap was trimmed back to the hull using my small plane. I can't say enough good things about these old vintage wood planes. They stay sharp and work so well, I enjoy using them as they were passed down from my father and grandfather.
Set the 3/4 oz glass cloth and trimmed a bit. Applied West System 105 resin and will apply a second coat while the first coat is still green, usually about 3 hours with the 206 slow hardener. I use the slow hardener as it is semi-arid along the southern Pacific coast here and usually warm as well. Gives me more work time than the 205 would.
I'm enjoying this build again after about a 10 day break due the hot weather.
Stay safe,
Joe 😎

That's becoming a really nice looking hull, very well executed.
I'm glad your enjoying the build, I find it one of the most relaxing hobbies, and I've got a lot of different ones but this is the best.
My two builds have been on hold due to a heat wave and poor air quality from our California Wildfires - keeping me out of my garage shop.
On the US1Meter boat, I sanded the fiberglassed deck and then laid out the main hatch opening on the deck. Using a thin razor saw I was able to make some clean cuts, cutting the opening turned out to be quick and simple. Started glueing up the opening sides and will fit the hatch cover to ensure a watertight seal.
Hopefully I can get some more work done on the boats before more heat is due next week.

This is the freshly painted Hatch. It's designed to hold the Sail Servo, Rudder Servo, RX and Power Switch. The arched element on top with a hole in it is a sheet guide for the Main Sail.
Servo arms and all sheeting, rudder control arm will be above deck. Shown on hull which is soon to be prepped for paint! Still having fun....😉

Photos show the sail and rudder servos mounted. Power switch as well. Sail Servo will get a 6" long servo arm which I will build next.
The RX will be mounted next between the servos, along with power leads that will connect to the battery. The battery will be placed in the bottom of the hull to keep center of gravity low.
More to come.
