The tide came in, which was my clue to leave by 4 am

Intelligence provided the clue that the Uboat was at 4 fathoms….using depth charges we drove her to the surface where we took the crew prisoner.

One of my preferred 3 vowel starters, finally hit hole in one paydirt😀
Living some 800km from the nearest open sea I miss their cries.
Was born (at a very early age😁) in Folkestone, Kent.
Still an active fishing port back then, remember their cries as they followed the fishing boats back to the harbour. Watched from the pier when supposed to be fishing with Grandad.😁
He didn't much care if he caught anything or not. Main thing he was out in the fresh air and escaped from Grandma's nagging for a few hours. Sometimes 'we' caught a few whiting, small but tasty😋
Last memories of UK, 8 years ago, occasion of Mum's 90th birthday, RIP Mum, also include their cries as they swirled around the beach at the east end of Bournemouth.
I used to watch them from Mum's balcony, house right on the beach near Princes Park, whilst enjoying my first coffee of the day (and first fag🙄). NOT US fag I hasten to add!!!!!
