Job Lot:- Taycol Torpedo.
Most of it is of no use to me, but an old electric Taycol Torpedo motor that came with it was my reason for buying for it as I really would like to own a working Taycol motor of some sort or another.
This old motor is fairly well worn and needs stripping and rebuilding - probably with new Paxolin end plates as the main shaft bearings are completely worn out.
I am not sure about the original specification of these motors, because although this one has a plain bearing hole drilled in the rear Paxolin end plate (now completely oval and worn out), the front end plate has a brass bearing fitted. This may or may not be original - I would like to find out?
I may be able to make some brass bearings or find a suitable size of flanged ball bearing to insert rather than making new end plates with plain bearings (I think the originals only had a drilled hole in the end plates to act as a shaft bearing?).
Once stripped and cleaned I may find other problems, but I am happy to own this Taycol Torpedo motor as I missed-out on ever owning one in the 1960's when they were at their most popular because I was an ic motor enthusiast and spent any spare cash that I had on them rather than on electric motors.
I am really looking forward to seeing if I can get this old motor restored and running again.
Bob.
