Thanks Doug,
That's a good idea, something to think about.
As you can see I really need to do something about my workshop.

Go for it 👍
Keyboards are cheap enough.
Here's a space saving trick for it.
When I installed Gisela's PC and Internet etc I put the keyboard on a slide out drawer like shelf just under the small desk top. Just shove it back in out of the way when you don't need it 😊
Leaves the desk/bench top uncluttered.

If I did that Doug, that would be a massive upgrade to the workshop and the most technical thing in there.

Hang it on the wall Martin, with just a remote keyboard on the bench.
I hate those piddly laptop keyboards, with 5 functions for each key🤔, anyway.
I always took a "real" keyboard with me on business trips.

I suppose if I made smaller models I would have just enough room to put my laptop in my workshop.

"access to everything"
.... even the coffee machine and microwave just round the corner behind the bookcase!😋
And a TV/Monitor attached via HDMI cable to my PC in the other room - so I can hear the "Honks" and keep track of what U Lot are up to😉

I was lucky that when my work was up grading machines if I could carry the old one I would have it and stashed it away for later use ,I got a pillar drill from the jewellery department because it wasn't drilling at 90° got it home and all that was wrong was the table hadn't been squared properly, still keep in contact with my old squad so if anything comes up they let me know they also keep loads of handy off cuts .will post some photos of the workshop interior when I get the gear moved in 👍keeping my fingers crossed a 3D printer might need upgraded😂😂😂or perchance a laser 🤞

I am doing exactly the same as you Doug. I am buying all of the items, including kits and machines, over the next two or three years ready for my retirement move to Hungary. I wish I could bring my factory machines with me. I have a 1 metre CNC machining centre along with a 16 electrode changer CNC spark eroder, Bridgeport mills, J&S grinders and others. I think my shed is a little small and possibly not enough power as the maximum single phase power supply here is only 32A. Small bench machines it is then.😊

I think we should retire at the age of 18 and start work when we get to 100, unless you can get a sick note LOL!

It seems that a lot of my neighbors do,although a few do have a job and that is struggling to get out of bed LOL!

To pun it - seems we are all in the same boat..........

During the last 2 or 3 years of my working life I had the foresight to use my profit sharing bonus to acquire the more expensive machinery, test equipment and tools. Not to mention a stash of some rather large kits, 2.4Gig RC gear and a collection of ESCs and components!
Would all have been impossible now with just the pension!
Especially as the rent just went up☹️

Martin you wont believe what I bought most of the stuff for mostly at a Lymington boot sale on various occasions - very near Setley Pond - my clubs home waters - 2 cased Mini Drills (one with small variable speed transformer) cost all of two quid, self powered Jigsaw as new for a fiver with large VS transformer also fiver. Many sheets of veneer at two quid. 100 odd tins of various enamels a fiver and so on - Victory Fireboat a fiver - too many to list...........

"Too untidy for pictures until its finally sorted"
It will NEVER be finally sorted!
Model workshops adhere to the universal law of
"Stuff expands to fill the space available for it!" 🤔

Attached a few pics of my workshop from 2 years ago - currently sorting again so that I can use my little spray booth! Basically lathes and mill etc at one end, electronics with scopes, PSUs and soldering station at the other.
Construction and painting in between. That's the part that tends to get cluttered with "parked stuff"🤔.
Not included are the drill press and electric coping saw in the cellar for the heavy stuff.
Ships all over the wall and bookshelf, more ships on shelves in the living room😉
You don't have to be nuts for this hobby - BUT IT HELPS! 😁
Cheers, Doug 😎

Suppose Im luckier than most - have the entire spare bedroom for myself . Its allowed since it is used for business purposes too. Too untidy for pictures until its finally sorted but am very lucky to have an original Emco Unimat Lathe , Black & Decker Mini Sander, Drill press , Table Saw, and two Jigsaws (one self powered the other using their sabre saw) plus two sizes of B&D mini drills and two variable speed power units. Most of which were picked up for very little at boot sales when in UK - to say nothing of the large amount of teak & mahogany veneer.

Thanks for the compliment.
In my little workshop I don't have power tools, well having said that I do have a battery drill.
So every thing is cut ,shaped by hand a bit old school I know but I don't have the room for piller drills and things.
I just have to think of ways to achieve the same results.

I can only dream!!
I work from a very small workshop. The area of a single bed.
but at least it is indoors and has a radiator.

I have finally finished the new Shipyard. I had help to do the final build as it came as planks of wood. I painted the floor today which only leaves the outside walls to cover with a second coat.
I will try to get a workbench installed before I have to go back home and work. This will be my retirement office when her in doors who must be obeyed says I can have the day off.
I am lucky as my testing
lake
is at the bottom of the garden. The Danube.😀
I will buy a few small machines over the next year or so and then, hopefully, have a bit of uninterrupted building time.
I have seen the lovely pictures of Colin`s new workshop but I would love to see where others do their work as well and the equipment used.
