I've just ordered a matilda tank off ebay £4.95 post free. At least it will give me some idea.

I think, as 1/100 kits seem to be a bit elusive, I'll buy them as I see them. £4.50 postage seems a bit over the top. but that is for orders up to £70 Will probably get a couple of Matildas off Ebay for the moment. Don't need too many., but a bit more variety would be good. I'm still thinking of building an LCT to go on deck though.

Went on their website first Doug, and no way I would buy at £4.50 postage per item, much better deal on ebay, that's why suggested them to Nery's😀

Hi Doug, thank you for that information, I won't need too many vehicles, just a few tanks and lorries to go on the upper deck. I agree with you, Matildas and Crusaders are the most likely, although my dad did carry American tanks on several occasions. The other alternative would be to build an LCT to go on deck as he did carry one across the Atlantic when coming from the builders and trials. I have drawings of that.
I have a picture somewhere of the props, they were stowed under a deck extension on the after deck.

Hi Nerys,
There's a good selection of 1:100 British and American WW2 tanks and other vehicles; trucks, scout car, here-
https://www.wonderlandmodels.com/models/plastic-models/zvezda/1-72-historic-miniatures/?attr_nation=usa&attr_nation=british
Including a Sherman, a Crusader and two Matilda tanks; MK1 & MK2.😀
I'd put Matildas & Crusaders on a 'British' vessel.
EVERYBODY and his brother does Shermans😁
I can vouch for the Zvezda kit quality👍; I have some German U Boat deck guns (88 & 105mm) and a 37mm gun for my PT109 from them. Not expensive either😊

Re Props; well you can use the cr***y plastic ones for the deck spares.
Now we just need to find a photo showing where they were stashed!😉
I would guess lashed to a wall somewhere?

No, the plastic things are definitely intended as the propulsion props. He doesn't mention any on deck, it's just that I happen to know they were carried.

Hi Nerys,
" as well as some strip lime for the barge I am building at the same time, (where I am more at home)."
Maybe we can come to an arrangement here?😉
I'll build your LST for you and you nip over in the Command, Control and vittles vehicle and do the new deck and wheelhouse on my Danish fish cutter! Howzzat? 😁
You mentioned a while ago that the LST carried two spare props on the deck, so I strongly suspect that the two tiny, flimsy plastic props you found in the kit belong to the deck fittings.
The 'real' props you should find in one of the multi-faceted plastic trays of bits!
As Pete says, they are most likely pretty rough cast soft white metal which needs a lot of grinding, filing and polishing to make 'em halfway usable. I didn't trust 'em to hold a thread for long either, so I switched 'em for brass for my Manxman.

Not cheap but in my experience well made and balanced😊
Not yet found any other manufacture that does 2mm shaft /20mm diameter brass props🤔

You're more than welcome Nerys, I have also been scouring for you, vehicles for your LST 388, they are few and far between in 1/100, plenty in 1/72, but they would look far to big, I've managed to source some american trucks, and some tanks, but not any shermans👎, will keep on looking, and will send you the links later, having problems wth my IT server (Virgin)😊

Nerys, I’ve been watching an Anime entitled “Girls und Panzers”, which is about a slightly different universe where high school and college aged girls practice “Sensha-do”, a sporting event or martial art with tanks..😁
It’s really quite good, and a lot of fun to watch, and it’s more about friendship and finding yourself as anything else. Anyway, since you have an LST, thought I’d share some pics...

Thank you very much Doug, for your kind offer and for giving me that upward push to the dizzy heights of Vice Admiral.
The props are three blade, one LH and one RH rotating, 20mm, M2 shaft and according to Deans, type 146. I thought they looked rather shoddy.
I've ordered all the adhesive that you suggested, from CMB too, as well as some strip lime for the barge I am building at the same time, (where I am more at home).

They were the same in my Manxman kit🤔 I decided to replace the props with brass from Raboesch.
If you can give me the measurements of the props (3 blade I assume?); diameter, shaft diameter, thread? I'll dig out some suitable brass ones which fit the era.

Hi Nerys, Doug is quite correct, the 385 from Cornwall models is perfect for your need, I have never used a Deans motor, in any of my Deans kits, the 385 or a 400 is able enough
for most of his kits, don't bother with the kit props, they are white metal and rubbish, also you will find that the rudder along with the rudder arm are also white metal, better to replace all with brass options, and an old 13amp plug earth bar, to use as a rudder arm.😊

Strange how you should mention a boat you stated building from Miniature Slipway. which was the beginnings of Model Slipway, I've got a mate who has moved from chairman at our club, back to his home in London, before he left he sold me a model of Vliestroom buoy layer, a kit by Model Slipway, but he had transferred all the superstructure parts from
plasticard onto ply, similar to yourself, so I have got to continue the build in wood😊

Thanks Pete for your offer of help with the LST, it is a lot different from virtually anything else I have built and if you have built several of Deans kits you are probably aware of their idiosyncrasies The nearest I have come to it was Dutch Coaster from Miniature Slipways. I gave up on that and built most of the superstructure in wood.

The kit arrived this afternoon. I've had it all out of it's box and into the smaller inner box that will make it a bit easier to handle. I've had a first read of the instructions whilst looking at the box of bits and the laser cut plastic bits. My first impression was, how on earth can he expect a model this size to run on two silly little flimsy plastic propellors like those, I've seen better on kid's toys. Whether my poor old arthriticy fingers will be able to put some of those bits of plastic together, I don't know. Still we'll give it a go as soon as I've plucked up courage and there's always Alice who will see to the motors and radio bits anyway.

Watch this space.

From what some people on here said about Mr Dean and his products, I'm not sure it isn't unlike waiting outside the headmistress's office. I must admit I am quite apprehensive. I hope there are no snags or dodgy bits with it but from the feedback I had about Deans, I would never have gone there if it hadn't been an LST. On the other hand I sincerely hope that I will be able to give a glowing report on the kit when it eventually arrives.

As a matter of interest, at least to me, I googled LST368 a day or two ago and found a lengthy journal written by a Radio Operator who served on her from the time he flew to the US to stand by her as she was being built right through to the end when in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) she was given back to the Yanks. I found it most interesting and I learnt a lot about her service that I never heard from my father.
