Galilee Boat
With all the members permission I would like to share my Galilee Boat project.
Here is a brif story of how I got my hands on the model.
I have to mentioned where I got this kit from because is always good the real story behind the kit.
The place is "SE Miller Guitars". http://www.semillerguitars.com/sea-of-galilee-boats/.
Scott Miller owns the business and I asked him how he came to produce this now famous boat kit.

This was his exacts words:

I was a moderator at MSW when Captian Pugwash was running the site and had just moved on from building kits to scratch building. I did the Triton cross section build that was going on at the time and that got me interested in building models other than standard scale ships. This lead me to building boat models because they are fun to build and can be done in much less time than a three master ship. The also don't require a lot of rigging which was attractive to me as well.

One model that was fun to build and could easily be scratch built was Midwest's Peterborough canoe kit. I made quite a few of these as gifts and this introduced me to building on a strong back and using thin CA glue to weld planks together

I started looking at different boats that I could model and found that no one offered a Sea of Galilee boat model kit other than a paper one from a German company. I found an excellent book by Shelly Wachsmann about the discovery of the Kinneret boat and that book had a set of ships plans in it. I used those plans plus what I had learned from building Peterborough canoes to build the first 16" Sea of Galilee model.

    Hi DWB,
Balloon Duster is an unfortunate typo for Balloon BUSTER!
It's just a hilarious game on the water, especially at exhibitions, to encourage youngsters to get involved.
Each boat has a balloon tethered to it, which the other boats try to bust (pop💥) with a spike mounted as a bowsprit. (I've got 4 x 4.7" QF Mk. IXs on mine😂🤣)
If done in strict competition I guess you could regard a Balloon Buster as a boat class, with defined specs in order to level the playing field.
But if JFF then Who cares about specs? Even in Formula 1 teams are always trying to develop 'an edge' within the rules!
    Last man (balloon) standing wins😁
    LET THE GAMES COMMENCE!!
    Cheers, Doug 😎

Here is what the "Florida" version of the "Balloon Boat" looked like (first photo, ~1990).

This is what the "Mother" of these balloon boats looks like today (second photo, current rescue boat). This was the master to make the mold for subsequent fiberglass hulled boats like in the first photo.

WWI Sub Chaser
Many of you guys know that this is an old model that has been in the market for a long time and reproduced by many model companies like Dummas 1259 SC-1, ITC Model class craft 1:74 (plastic), Ringo Toy Corporation NC. C-5820200 1:74, Glenco model 1:74 (plastic) and a few others.
I don’t know if I have mentioned this before but I receive many request to build models for a local well know model company that is Model Expo owned by Marc Mosko, also owner of Model Shipways, Model Trailways, Model Airways and Guns of History.
This Subchaser is R/C but I never added all of the radios and servos since it was going to be shown on the Model Expo showcase.
So here is what I build with many scratch build items.
I hope you guys like it.

It’s a very nice and slick looking model, thank you for sharing that picture with us.
My kit is a Nauticurso from Brazil but Model Expo distributes it. There are so many things you could add to the model to make it look as real as possible.
“The Sub Chaser Archives” is the website I used for all of the reference need it.

I built this about 40 years ago, quite a rarity now I believe. Has not been in the water for about 30 years. I plan on bringing it up to date with speed controller and lipos as it used to use large heavy batteries and manual speed controller powered by servo. 👍

    Dear All.
    Continuing on this thread.
I have found two old black and white pictures of HHS Ulysses originally built as a U class destroyer R69.After a distinguished career and being laid up after the war she was converted to a Type 15 anti submarine frigate, new pennant number F17.
She was eventually sent to the cutters torch at Davies and Cann next to Laira Bridge near Plymstock in Plymouth in I think 1968/9 where I lived at the time.
The first picture shows her alongside at Devonport prior to paying off in 1968.
The other photographs (taken by me) show her alongside awaiting the torch.
Sorry for the quality pictures but my camera back then was very basic.
Sad end for another Greyhound of the seas.
I can’t remember the name of the other vessel awaiting scrap.but perhaps somebody may have ideas.
    Regards Bill.

    Hi Bill,
HMS Bermuda Colony/Fiji class light cruiser C52. Broken up 1965.
Pic 1; Ulysees and Bermuda from the rear end April 1960! Both still in commission.
Ulysses was decommissioned in 1963, in reserve until 1966? And finally scrapped in Plymouth in 1970.
Pic 2; Bermuda in camouflage underway 1942.
    Seek and ye shall find!

Slim Nip 2
My Bermuda rigged "Slim Nip 2" evolved from many hours of enjoyment I have had building, sailing and re tweaking previous "Nips".
The Bermuda rigged "Slim Nip 2" was a natural progression from my recent uni rigged "Slim Nip"
I just had to explore how an extended (76cm) Bermuda rigged hull would look and sail ?.
Length - 760mm , Beam - 170mm , Mast - 1100mm (Deck to top).

Other Wee Nip videos for ref. No.42 No.164 No.205 plus many more here on RCSailing

She look really good. If she was mine I would try the following idea. Lower the jib boom closer to the deck, add a bit more camber into the sails and open the slot up between the jib and the main and the jib when the sails are pulled in.
Just my thoughts enjoy sailing her

Hi Roger , all noted. I did put on an adjustable jib rack expecting to have "juggle" positions. With the weather starting to improve hopefully I can spend a bit more time working on the finer points. Someone once said to me , "you can get anything to sail , but its more difficult to get it to sail well" - How very true !!!!.
    cheers

Dusseldorf Function Test
I have now completed the final tests before launching and everything works well. I will do a small update soon because the crane still cannot clear the stern railings. The solution is to reduce the size of the hook on the crane. It does look rather big.😀 I have tried again to load a video of the wiring. We will see.

    Hi Albert90,

Your Smit Nederland is superbly built, and I love the sound system!

Pity we're so far away from each other?

As, I'd love to do some tug boating competition with you?

Also, Thanks for pointing out the wrong lighting on my mast!

    Regards,

My Last Video I Made During the First UK Lockdown Period - Dunkirk 1940
Having recently posted the other two videos I made to pass the time when the UK was first locked down due to the pandemic I thought I would post the third and final short video I made at the time.

This video covers the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force from the beaches of Dunkirk in Northern France in 1940 by the armada of ships and little boats that went to their rescue.

The amazing tenacity of the British people in war torn Britain in 1940. Without their rescue the outcome of World War II could have been dramatically different.
