This boiler runs at around 60psi ! do you think that is a little high ? I was a little concerned by the amount of steam that is being generated as you may have noticed in the video. I can adjust the intensity of the flame inside the boiler so that a lower head of steam is generated, what do you think ?

Yes that's what I do. I am always amazed at the power the oscillator generates and once rotating very little steam is required to maintain speed. Then again it's not for windy or rough conditions. I would try gradually reducing the pressure until the engine show signs of stopping and then increase by a couple of psi to ensure safe running. You do not need to run the boiler at its max rated pressure when the escape valve will be opening just at a level that replaces what the engine uses. Can we have another video with the steam whistle sounding?

I built this vessel from scratch using a pre made clinker fibreglass hull purchased from Mini Steam Australia. The engine is an oscillating twin cylinder and the boiler is a 3" Centre Flue Gas Fired Vertical Boiler from "Miniature Steam". The gas tank is a 1-1/2" vertical refillable GasTank also from Miniature Steam Pty. Australia.The vessel is radio controlled with the skipper appearing to control the rudder. it has a smoke generator and a rc controlled steam whistle.

very nice boat and yes it is difficult to video and sail at the same time ! try to get someone else to steer while you video !! using a tripod is best. Les Breame

I was using a monopod so I could pan and follow the model. I agree the tripod works much better. All my fellow sailors were otherwise engaged unfortunately.

Had one myself when of similar age in mid sixties (now 65). Model was by Keil Kraft of Canvey island, Essex. Completed mine in 1965, fitting a Frog Marine 3.5cc engine and boy did it go! Sailed it mostly on the boating lake at Southchurch Park, Southend, Essex, and also once in the sea at Oostvorne in Holland, where I nearly lost it. I passed it onto my nephews in the 70's, not sure if they still have it, but if they do, I will pin photos. Meanwhile, have pinned photo of real thing.😎

That's different, are you going to still use the clockwork motor. How does the rudder work. I see it has a wire from it to inside the boat. Also what is the nipple on the side sponson for?

yes still clockwork,The best improvements have been made by lightening the motor, drilling holes in everything and replacing a side plate with one made of alloy.It is just a nut on the sponson, they are adjustable for incidence.It will now plane on the sponsons "unsticking" the hull.The original was built when I was 13/14,the motor came from the family gramophone when my dad converted it to autochanger/amplifier,the wood came from the woodshed but I was short of plywood and realised the back of my wardrobe was plywood and was hidden behind clothes so when my parents were out I cut the bits I needed from it!,my mates christened it "the wardrobe".Performance is down to propeller choice and is a compromise between speed and runtime.I took it to a boating pond in a nearby town when my wife needed to visit it and a council "jobsworth" told me I was not allowed to sail it,"only yachts and electric boats on here sir"no amount of reasoning would make him change his mind and he escorted me out of the park!.
