Sailing at the Leander Boat Club dock Hamilton bay
A few of the Confederation Modellers members went to the Leander boat dock on Saturday, May 10, 2025, for test runs since the weather was great for sailing, and there were no weeds or green algae.

The Confederation Model Boat Club has been setting up a pool for many years, and it will be the same size as in 2024. The club made the pool forms many years ago, and I sure hope the museum helps to buy a new plastic liner because the old one sure leaks a lot.

Hi Garth here in UK we found that the best pool liner was from lorry tarpaulin suppliers.

Ice Breaking in Oxford
Video of an Oxford Model Boat Club member's tug breaking ice on the club's water last winter. I expect there to be some ice there this afternoon as well.

I have often thought that I should research tank landing craft designs to see if I can combine my interest with 1/16 scale r/c model tanks

Yard Sale Find
I have way to much time to waste raking up the leaves & bagging them but I am still working on some of the models I got & this time it's the Bluenose kit that had all the masts broken off . I started it while our model boat club was at the Caledonia wood show . I try my best to get people to be interested in model boat building while I'm repair the model. The sails are up & now for the rat lines & a little painting & a few touch up here & there!

You rarely see one as an RC mostly static with full sails. When we were in Lunenberg the Bluenose was not sailing with all of them up. Just the three seen on your model.

Ronald, that's because the current master is no where neart the calibre of Angus Walter and the other captains of the Grand Banks fleet. Angus greatest love was hoisting full canvas and seeing how she'd do.

Yard Sale Find
In every yard sale find you come across a box that at first you think its just a bunch of junk .But I came upon a half kit with lots of parts missing The Swift 1805 . The model boat club I'm in did a show at the wood show in Caledonia so I bought a sheet of plywood just for this Swift's keel & frames . I also found a Bluenose model that had masts broken in Needed of some major repairs.

Fun boat to build. I still have lots of leftover wood n parts. It comes out well for a display ship. Good find

Andrea Gail
The model boat club I'm in will hold a boats in the park at night on Thursday Sept.19th at 6:30 P.M. At Spencer's pool in Burlington . We do get a lot of spectators that enjoy the lighted model boats So I figured I'd better install some lights on my Andrea Gail the photo isn't that good but it will have to do for now. P/S installing lights sure is a pain ! And I'll take a few shots when it's darker.

Suncoast Scale Model Boat Club (Florida, USA) meet: Aug 18, 2024
We had a small meet but being I recently got a new camera I was able to test it out with a few photos and videos. The video is short at about 3 minutes.

(The sternwheeler is a work in progress and will be static model. It is a Chaperon kit modified to look like an operating sternwheeler here in Florida.)

Hi Lew, good job and congrats on the new camera. I hope you will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Photos are good and sharp and the video very clear.

One question I have and wondering what setting you have for your light balance. On my phone and computer, they came up as very blue.

    Looking forward to more...

Peterd, I have been using the default settings on the camera. Supposed to be a fairly "simple" aka "point and shoot" but there are a lot of settings and I need to see what is best.

It is a new camera but has been around for a while. I bought it because of the ratings, price, and features like splash proof, dust proof, and a good zoom, 4K HD, all is essential for me in photographing model boats and tanks.

TV Segment on the Suncoast Scale Model Boat Club (Florida, USA)
A few years back one of the TV stations in the Tampa Bay area sent a professional media crew out to record one of our meets. I got a copy of the finished video (permission granted by the TV station for reproducing). It is quite uplifting and shows you what model boating in Florida looks like.
I hope you enjoy it!

Sailing at Madrid (Spain)
As far as I know, there is not a model boat club at Madrid. However, modellers gather Sundays at 10:30 to sail at a pond -actually a set of four connected ponds-, located in a municipal park, in the south of the city. Access is free.
The boat in the video is a sidewheeler, scratch built by my good friend Eduardo Yraola, who is a far more accomplished modeller than I am. She has steam propulsion, and sails at a majestuous pace.

I wonder about this boat turning radius. Is there a speed differential to the paddle wheels, or is the turning all done by the rudder?

Nice job on the sink and recover boat!! I have an idea how you do it, and its very well done, but my question is what transmitter are you using? Never seen the like of it here in the US. Very cool though.
    Cash
  • Graham93Vice Admiral
    Hi Cash,

The transmitter is home built 27MHz FM based on the design published in RCM&E in the 1970s. All of Paul's subs have a dedicated home made Tx.

On one occasion when Paul was sailing/sinking this boat in the park we had a passer by, in running kit, offer to jump in to rescue the boat! He was a bit embarrassed when it resurfaced 😂🤣
