The balsa planking seems a strange choice for such a big model as it is easy to dent in use - or even in transit!

Resin and fiberglass it.

I like the look of your Catalina, Doug, do you fly her and if so do you fly her from land or water, being an amphibian? I have a hankering for a seaplane just to run around the lake, not flying, but whether I'll get round to it now, I don't know.
I saw a Catalina at an airshow, years ago and was surprised what a big plane she was and I had a distant American relative who was an airgunner on one in the Korean war.

Gregg... I use a contour gauge (pic). then draw it out on the wood. Dowels in between.

The forward hatch is actually a small speaker. The sound module for the engine also has horns and bell which when triggered only come out of that speaker. More realistic

Where is your stern light? mine is aft on the upper deck.
