About this boat

I was given this boat tonight at our club's annual swap meet. I don't know anything about it. Any input is appreciated.

SteveG: I have finally had some time to spend on my USCG Motor Lifeboat. As you could see in my original pictures, somebody before me had filled the hull with spray foam insulation. When I got the boat, I was told the "hull leaks". It is obvious that water had gotten in somehow, as there is a significant amount of mold that had grown inside, at some point. In an interest of purging the mold, and also finding the condition of the hull below it, I felt that the first step was to remove the spray foam and the accompanying mold. Now that I have the hull cavity purged, it looks quite sound. I'm wondering if the "leaky hull" was actually water coming in through the stuffing tubes. Next step is a bathtub test to see if I can locate the source of the leak. I also intend to coat the inside of the hull in epoxy to help seal it.

SteveG171: Here in Minnesota, the temps have been unusually nasty (-10'sF and -20'sF overnight). I can't keep my workshop warm enough to want to do much. I'm hoping that I will be able to get out there and work on projects soon.

    Hi,
    You lucky person.
Thats a model of the North American Coast Guard boat known as MLB 47. Its a self righting boat 47 ft long.
I am building a scratch model of it and pretty envious you were just given that, The models are almost impossible to get in any cndition and very expensive over here. The are used by American and Canadian Coast Guard. If you want any specific info send me a message as I a lot.
