I used a Pettit Product called Lust.
Would not use again. Would use Pettit's Captains Varnish.
Sounds like dust might be your problem.
I always lightly wipe done with a Tack rag immediately before varnishing
even then it is difficult to eliminate all dust
I would love to see your Riva finished😊😊

Hi shipmate, can l ask what type/ make of varnish you were using im trying to finish of my riva, l must have coated it at least six times and rubbed it back down six times l was unhappy with the finish always looked as tho it had fine grains of dust or something in the dried varnish.
can l throw it out to one and all who,s make of clear varnish is the best l know that may be a very debateable topic but You cant have a Riva or chriscraft varnish finish looking speckled.
    Stay safe everybody. Jim

    Many Thanks!!
14 coats of brushed on varnish sanded with 400 grit between coats. Final coat brushed on.
If I sprayed the final coat I would have to rub it out. To me a brushed on coat should come out like glass

You are right with your statement making a "silk pure out of a sow's ear" (one of my favorite sayings) When completing this model you have to use you own judgement and experience in interpreting the instructions for a successful build.

Perfectionism is a dangerous affliction Por.
After a certain point any further fiddling can only make things worse 🤔
Be very happy with what you have achieved - Lip lickin' good 😋

    WOW! Slurp slurp drooool 😮😋
    What an immaculate model.
    Superb workmanship Presson👍👍👍
If that came from a Dumas kit it just goes to show that
You CAN make a silk purse from a sow's ear - given the right skills and talent.
    Very well done Sir.
Will we get to see her performing in her element?
Or don't you want to put her into that 'orrible mucky wet stuff
    Cheers, Doug 😎
