About this boat

At about the time I retired and was looking for an indoor hobby I noticed on that well known auction site an unused tug kit for sale, reasonably priced, no it was cheap! I bought it and was surprised and pleased that it was better than expected. The kit was from PBM Patrick & Blunt Models Ltd I cannot remember what I paid
but the original price tag still attached to what is left of the box shows £38.99, were things ever that cheap?
Hull construction was balsa sandwhich, deck and superstructure balsa and plastic mouldings which had degenerated and had to be remade by myself i.e wheelhouse and funnel and other bits.
Although I completed her with geared motor and steering she has never been in the water. She sits much loved in a glass case in my bedroom and hopefully sits there for much longer.

I think most people do, I think they are the maritime equivalent of Thomas the tank engine.

Yes Duncan it is I think the best word to describe it is "twee" but well proportioned.
The model was approved by the Alexander Towing Co Ltd for PBM.
Pity they went out of business they produced some lovely model kits.

Thank for your kind comments Colin,
As a by the way had it not been for Alfred I perhaps would never have had such an enjoyable retirement building model boats and may I build many more. I would also never have discovered "Model Boats Website".

Well done Roy, I think four of my model boats are from part built or in need of restoration projects, I find them great fun to finish and make more beautiful again. Also they become individual and one offs.

That's a beautiful little tug, and built extremely well, looking very good.
Pity we will never see it on the water.
Well done shipmate, that's a model to be proud of.
    Cheers Colin.

    Hi. Shipmates,
I have an old 'SUN' tug about 30in long waiting to be renovated, found the plan on the internet, but so far only planked the deck, surprisingly there's a Bullet 30 motor inside it so it should move well.
