About this boat

Graupner Taucher Wulf, my “do-over”. Motor is a Zippkits 650kv 35mm outrunner, Hobbywing 16BL30 brushless 30 amp esc. Radiomaster transmitter and FrSky receiver. I run her on a single 5000 mah lipo, this allows me more than 2 hours on the water of off and on running. Functions are throttle, rudder, nav lights and radar.

Thank y’all for the comments. I happened on using brushless outrunners a few years ago, when I built my little Graupner SAR Herta Jeep. The boat originally came with a 380 type motor, but it was definitely not up to the standards of the old Speed 400 range. The boat was built to spec, no mods, but the stock motor left me stranded in the middle of the pond..it had gotten hot enough to loosen the brushes. So…I modded the mount to accept a 28mm 1400 kv outrunner, and never looked back. I still like brushed, especially paired with a planetary gearbox, but a good low kv outrunner is hard to beat.
About the pond…it stays pretty clean most of the year, but about a month ago there were a ton of geese hanging out, and there was scum from feathers and “goose goo” floating on the surface. A couple of us had racing stripes down the waterline that day🤣🤣

Great model. I have also found that a large "outrunner" brushless motor gives every bit as controlled and gradual throttling as a large brushed motor (850 type) in my freelance 32 inch and heavyweight tugboat.

What is more the 4260 brushless gives far more power for towing and delivers at least twice the running time as the old brushed motor. What's not to like???

Nice looking model. The power train and battery set up show that LiPos can be used for an afternoon's sail. I wish my lake was as weed free as yours.
