   Hello Nerys,
   So glad you like the book and I do believe the prototype for 'Bent' is included. After your last post I looked up the Tumlaren- gorgeous boat - and I found a video of some rather fabulous sailing models too. I'm not sure how I missed this boat.
   
   I agree with you about owning boat books - I have shelves groaning with them, but I was just a bit worried that you had zoomed off to place an order - and then blamed me! 😊 Mind you, I might look for a copy now, but not the £74 one.
   
   I always thought a larger Bent would make a lovely model - add to the list of boats I will build if I live to be 150!

   Thank you Ian for recommending this book to me. It came this morning and although I've only had a quick look through realise what an excellent book this is. I've even found one design which could be the full size version of the boat in my harbour. I was also interested to see how many boats were rigged with a spritsail, never knew that it was so common in Scandinavia.

   On contemplation through lunch, the name of the editor of The Yachtsman was K.Adlard Coles. He also edited The Yachtsman Annual.
   I am aware of the service offered by libraries in normal times to obtain books, but I prefer owning them as I may want to use them for reference at any odd time. Also, if they have to borrow them from other libraries, I believe one has to pay postal charges, which can be quite high for some books. £33 was a bit much to pay, but it was the cheapest option.There were others up to £74, but I don't begrudge it as it sounds like the sort of book I want in my collection and I've paid more in the past.

   The Tumlare were a very pretty double ended cruising yacht designed by Knud Reimers. There were two sizes and one of the bigger ones was ocean raced by the owner, who if I remember correctly was editor of a magazine called 'The Yachtsman', can't remember his name off hand. Also, this is purely from memory, a member of her crew was the first person lost overboard in a Royal Ocean Racing Club event, a Fastnet Race. From memory again, the smaller ones were called 'Porpoise' and the larger 'Albatross'

   In normal times you could have reserved a copy from your local library. The book is full of lines plans, so who knows, you may become inspired but £33 seems dear. I remember it being about £25 new - admittedly some years ago.
   Was just watching a video of Tom Cunliffe describing a storm he experienced whilst making a north Atlantic crossing in a Colin Archer during the seventies. It's on You Tube.
   A Dragon! You have certainly done a lot in the world of boats. I'm not familiar with the Tumlaren, will look it up.

   I'm sure I will enjoy reading it and, who knows what ideas for new builds will be generated. I've always had a soft spot for Scandinavian boats, everything from the Colin Archers to the Tumlaren and Dragons of the yacht racing world. In fact I did own a Dragon a long time ago.

   I am inclined to agree with you about the ancestry of 'Gwyneth's design, very Scandinavian and I expect you are right about being a Billings kit. Apart from her general shape, the quality of construction appealed to me. I've made a note of that book, sort of book I like, I'll try to buy a copy.

    Hello Nerys,
    I have always admired these boats. I'm pretty sure it's a Billings Coastal Boat 'Bent', and that is a particularly nice example. They don't make the kit anymore. I first came across the type in a book called 'Wooden Boat Designs-Classic Danish Boats Measured and Described' by Christian Nielsen. I'm sure the lines and GA for Bent are in there. If you haven't come across the book I'm sure it's one you'd find interesting. Of course, it might be difficult to obtain with libraries in lock down but I borrowed it from my libary on numerous occasions- should have bought a copy really.
    I occasionally search on-line for one of these kits unbuilt but no luck so far.
