Bought this from the family of an ex-club member who passed away last year and spent time doing some refurbishments it sails very well on two channels rudder and mainsail winch.
Hi Graham,
Sorry we didn't see you at Cwmbran today. Several people looked at my barge including a couple who knew you. We had a very pleasant time at the Open Day. Lucky with the weather too. Do hope we meet up to see your Kitty sometime Perhaps you'll come to Vale of Glamorgan next time we have something on. We could have four barges sailing next year.
Well done Ken, I'm pleased you've acquired Kevin's barge. Have you any idea which model she is. I thought she might be a 'Celia Jane'. There'll be quite a collection in the club before long. Thanks also for your congratulations.
Hi Nerys, I might be there, it all depends on whether I will have to be away at my Sister-in-Laws, as it stands at the moment. It would be good to see yours and the other Barges. Regards Graham (jelley_baby).
Jellybaby, reverting from the gastronomic delights of Germany for a moment, I hope you will be bringing your barge to Cwmbran on Sunday, always like looking at other barge models. One of our members who is well into the building of a 'Veronica' will also be there and I'm sure he'd like to see your 'Kitty'.
Know what you mean Doug, no English catered for,
but I always enjoyed the food of Germany, many different Wurst, love the sauerkraut, and the Semmelknödels..sehr geschmackvoll, and used to like a drop of Courvoisier Cognac, then I found Asbach,
love the stuff but a bit of a price here in the good old UK.

Many moons ago when I worked at Vickers at Barrow in furnace my land lady always asked me to bring her Stornoway Black pudding ,Scottish plain loafs ,scotch pies and Ayrshire Middle back bacon when ever I went home for the weekend. The many moons ago was in the mid70s ,I was there when Vickers were building HMS Invincible, happy days 😊
I'm afraid it is very different in France, there is very little in the way of English food they can get in the local supermarkets and that includes Lidl and Aldi. There is a version of bacon and sausages, but rather different to what we expect. They can get an English tea in Intermarche (I think) but it is very expensive. An ex pat living locally tried to set up a business on the local markets selling English food, he was making regular trips to Dover for stock, but I'm afraid it didn't last very long. We also met at a trade show in Geneva once somebody selling quite a good range there, again, horribly expensive even by French or Swiss standards. Sorry I can't send you any sausage rolls, I think regulations forbid it anyway.
"I'd gladly send you some .."
Thanks for the offer Nerys, but I guess you're right.
5 to 10 days underway would be a bit dodgy. ☹️
Probably contrary to some PO or EU rule anyway🤔
I can get a reasonable range of English comestibles here in Munich.
Lidl for one has frequent 'country' weeks, including English.
Packs of frozen Chish & Fips etc.
HP and Lee & Perrins sauces and Chivers jams / marmalade are quite common in supermarkets. As are Huntley & Palmer and Crawfords biscuits and shortbread.
There are (or were?) two "English Shops" who get regular deliveries of English bacon and sausages an stuff, although the German & Danish versions here aren't bad. Beef sausages are very rare tho . Go there for me mince pies and Christmas Puds 😋
Must check if the shops are still there, if so wonder what will happen to them after BREXIT!
The Dijon "things" were probably full of mustard 😮😝
Have fun on Sunday 👍⛵
Cheers, Doug 😎
If I thought my sausage rolls would still be fresh enough by the time you received them, I'd gladly send you some, but they only keep for about three days and that's in the fridge. If you want to risk it.....
My sister and family make that complaint too and when I used to visit frequently I used to keep them well supplied in all things like English sausages, English bacon. baked beans, tinned spaghetti, beef suet, gravy mix and much else.. Gwyneth and I bought some things in a supermarket in Dijon one day that looked like sausage rolls. They weren't and we never found out what vile substance they were made from. That is one of the disadvantages of living in Europe if you like your English delicacies.
Glad you like the look of my barge, I'll be bringing her to Cwmbran to your open day on Sunday. Hope the weather is decent. It was far too blowy at Cold Knap last Saturday, couple of yachts were being overpowered so my barge didn't get wet. I've just acquired a 1/24 Portlight Themes Barge hull from Dave Watts Mastman as my next project.
Kitty has been quite a popular model. Her lines were first published in 'Spritsail Barges of the Thames and Medway' many years ago, but have been enlarged and quite a few models built. The original, full size 'Kitty' is still sailing.
Hope to see you Sunday, we'll be on the Vale of Glamorgan stand, my partner Alice (mainly her) and I are the club's tea ladies.
Hi just looked at your Barge, it looks a very very good model, mine was built as I said by an elderly club member who has now passed away from a plan called the “Kitty” which was from a “Model Boats Magazine” it was built from plywood and is about 24 inches long Hull with the extra length made up of the rudder and Bow Sprit it has a servo for the rudder an a second servo with a fitted arm that controls the Main Sails it needs very little wind to sail very well. You say that you sail at the Knap in Barry is that right, I have been a Member of the Cwmbran Modelling Club for about 10 years and sail at the lake in Cwmbran. Hope that helps.
