   Thanks Cash, I love building Thames Barges, they've been a passion, or at least, real ones have, for a good many years and that is reflected into my models. I've already started the next one but she is a going to be a swim headed stumpie, an older style that died out by about the 1930's. They have a swim headed bow and a budget stern, not unlike the dumb barges, lighters, that were a huge part of the 'over the side' unloading system of the Port of London in days gone by. The rig too is different, in not having a topsail. I'll get round to photos sometime.

   Good Gosh Nerys, you do nice work. She’s sweet looking..all that rigging would’ve drove me mad. Looks like a keeper to me!!

   Yes Nerys, it was a 15 minute bus ride from the school in Rochester, I was there only for the winter term and wasn't accepted by the other boys, I WAS A NORTHERNER. And I was glad to go home to Leicester, and back to my own school, and the rugby, and my mates. But most of all the boating lake in the Abbey Park, where me and my best mate took our model boats, they were all free sailing models, either pond yachts or small powered boats. Set the rudder and launch, run round the lake to meet your boat. Occasionally we had to get a rowing boat from the parks hire boats to rescue models that got stuck on the islands. Oh what joy, fun for boaters and spectators alike especially if we fell in.
   I still fall in occasionally. I've still got my original pond yacht that I had for my 5th birthday in 1954. Been repainted and new sails about 10 years ago. I'll have to get a picture of it posted. As soon as I can get in my storage area I'll picture all my boats individually an post with the details. Nothing fancy and all well used.
   Off to bed now, so I'll have to sign off for the night. Good night and God bless all fellow boaters.

   Hi Colin,
   Round about that time there were a couple of nearby boatyards where you could have been living, both were more or less under the shadow of the, then, new bridge. There was Borstal on the south, Rochester side of the river, or around Pelican Creek, Strood on the northern side, quite near the original Rochester Bridge. Both have always attracted a few residential moorings. Either ring a bell?

   Nerys, it's funny about the medway, my mum just reminded me that in 1962/3
   We spent a lot of time on the water while the medway viaduct was being built, we lived on dad's boat moored nearby, while he worked on the bridge and road equipment. Our moorings were somewhere near Rochester, I was13 and spent most of my free time fishing or when dad was back aboard we would get his model boat out and we'd sail her if the weather was good. I've still got the model in my collection.

   Many thanks to everyone who has said nice things about my latest barge 'Stangate'. I was pleased with her, but wish the weather had been a bit better, wind less flukey, so that I could have given her a good try out. 'Stangate' is named after a creek on the southern side of the Medway, one of the few with deep water. Lots of nostalgia wrapped up here.
   
   I am in process of completing an RAF Crash Tender that I bought part built from a club member going abroad but as soon as that is done, there will be another barge on the stocks. Probably a swim headed stumpie.

   Very sorry to hear that you have not been very well, To be truthful, I'm not very good myself. However, we keep going. Pleased to hear you approved of my latest creation. I must reiterate what Ken says. We would love to see you at our open day in June, whether it is with a display of your own boats or with your club. Just let us know.

   Great work Nerys, looks super, I'm still thinking of trying build one for myself, but my health has stopped me working on my models. But I have enjoyed following all of the comments on here.
   I will have to get cracking soon as I am entered into the Abergavenny steam and vintage show on White weekend. Haven't had a chance to look at my boats in storage since September last.
