About this boat
The model represents the "SAS Spioenkop" the third ship of this class to be completed. Laid down on 28 Feb 2002, launches 02 Aug 2003 and Commissioned 15 March 2004. LOA 121m, beam 21m, Displacement 3,600t. Cruise speed on 2 diesels 23kn and with CODAG warp (jet drive) about 30kn.
In addition to the two props the model also has the jet drive that I scratch built.
She carries a Super Lynx helicopter (modified SA Navy type) and this feature is automated on the model with the hangar door opening and the helicopter moving out and stopping on the helipad and visa versa controlled from the TX. The video clip that I would have liked to show gets a response of "Please enter an available You Tube Video" which I did but have removed it as the system would not accept my posting.

This rather bad video (poor light) is the first test of the jet drive some time ago. I have no idea of the scale speed of 30kts would be but I am sure it is way overscale on the video. I was just pretty schuffed that it worked!
here the down to earth (sea🙄) truth!
"CODAG WARP
CODAG Water jet And Refined Propeller (WARP), a system developed by Blohm+Voss as option for their MEKO line of ships, .... . CODAG WARP uses two diesel engines to drive two propellers in a combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) arrangement, i.e., both shafts can also be powered by any single engine, and a centerline water jet powered by a gas turbine. The idling water jet does not cause drag, and since its nozzle can be placed further aft and higher it does not affect the size of the propellers. "
Cheers, Doug 😎
So I kicked 'em out😉
Strange phenomenon!
Server sometimes seems to get it's 'lines crossed' with simultaneous postings and forgets where it's put stuff!? It must be getting old, like me🤔
Cheers, Doug 😎
Check your PMs. I answered your question there yesterday😉
My message describes the usual way of going via You Tube.
However, in this case, JFF, I tried just adding it via the 'Photos/Files' box to the right of the Post editing window.
It worked I think because the vid is relatively low resolution, quite short and hence not too large. Just under 8MByte in fact.
I suspect that the limit for direct uploading like this could be 10MB to prevent jamming the server with terabytes of long HD vids.
Cheers, Doug 😎
Thanks for checking for the plans

Nothing high tech about the nozzle. I got an off-cut of some kind of plastic from a machine shop and made it up on my little lathe.
You will notice no reverse bucket on the jet drive. It being only a demo drive I didn't think it was the effort as the twin screws are the main source of power.
I did find a dockyard plan that gave me the hull lines but it was drawn up well before the first ship was started, so many changes made to the superstructure by using pics and a video of the Spioenkop entering East London (SA) harbour on "Naval day".
Will check with the club here as to whether and plans exist for the Woltemade and John Ross...they were great looking tugs. I know that we have completed models of both within the club.
Cheers Marky 👍
Still looking for plans of the Wolraad Woltemade or John Ross - don't seem to be any around.
Hope you are being careful and not getting exposed to anything - so many rumours & false information going around about this virus. Take Care.
I wold love to see the video to see how the helicopter is manoeuvred.
