About this boat

Another semi-kit from Rob Fowler, rob4boats@yahoo.co.uk, who also supplied my MASB.
The hull is very well made and extremely robust.
At 1/24 scale fittings and crew are easily available so there was very little to scratch build. I can only claim ownership of the lockers, and splinter matting (made from Lilliput).
The colour scheme is (loosely), based on Western Approaches camouflage and this was my first attempt at weathering. On reflection it looks quite clunky close up but looks okay on the water.

    Great job!
I recently discover that four HDML's were built here in Maine, just down the road from me. They were shipped to Australia where they served.
Another tidbit: Nelson Rockefellor, former Vice President and former Governor of New York had a yacht called Dragon Lady, When I was growing up it was always referred to as his PT boat. It turns out that it, too, was a HDML that he bought for $1.

A nice looking model. Were any HDML's ever painted like this or is it an imaginative rendition? Mine looks very dreary all grey. Mine got dropped on the floor and trampled on during my daughter's 18th birthday party. It needs rebuilding and I fancy painting it a similar colour scheme to your's.
    Best wishes Tim

I started to build an HDML 5 years ago from a MODEL Boats free plan.
It has been on the water but I have not finished all the fittings etc. I hope this will give me the kick to get on with it.
