    The USCG Eagle was built as the German sail training ship Horst Wessel in 1936 and seized as war booty by the U.S.A.

    'Many years ago, nearly seventy in fact, I was in Copenhagen, The Royal Navy training squadron was there in the shape of the carriers 'Implacable' and 'Indefatigable'. The yanks came motoring in with the subject of this post the Coast Guard training ship'Eagle', sails very neatly furled, and then the Danes arrived, the full rigged ship 'Danmark', all sails set, tacking with perfect confidence up the harbour. Showing off in home waters, a lesson in expert ship handling or both. I don't know, but, I know what I thought.
