About this boat

My very first steam-boat back in the 70s, the Anteo by Panart probably the best kit ever, a plank on frame hull with lots of brass fittings. I fitted a Maxwell Hemmings Caton Steam plant and I was smitten, that was the first of many and still going strong. My only regret was somewhat butchering the engine housing in order to fit the valves and pipework. One of these days I might build another and make a much better job of it, hopefully. Check out my harbour for the rest of my small fleet of steam-powered working boats. The Anteo looking very realistic on the water, and the start of a love affair with steam and all it has to offer

Hi Gary, for the Highlander there is already all the data I need but not for the others.
By the way, do you mind if I insert the data of your models in the topic "Proportions between ship size and propeller diameter"?
I would like to comment and ask questions about all your steam masterpieces (only if it doesn't bother you though), so I would start with this one.
Could you tell me the dimensions (length and weight) of the Antaeus and the diameter of its propeller?

Hi Griss, and just a suggestion, how about an Extreme Smoke Generator, as supplied by Howes Models. this is supposedly for a bigger hull than Anteo at around the 1-meter mark. I think the question is how big is this unit and can you fit it into your hull. Please let me know what you decide as I am quite interested in your Anteo project. Regards, Gary.

Thanks Gary, I could not find any history on her either accept she and her sister ships were used by the military WW2 and the tug is pre war but some still operating today ? The model I have no history but it was purchased from a gent who was only displaying it and to a purist steam man it twill dissapoint because it has a large brushed motor. At £125 I could not walk away. Ps any idea who supplies a decent 12 volt steam genny all The Best Griss.🤞o

Hi Griss, I read your comment with interest as an Anteo using a fiber-glass hull is certainly news to me. Mind that would be a blessing when fitting a steam plant, as lots of room and no bulkheads and keel getting in the way. Was this kit by Panart or someone else? I have also tried to find information on Anteo and all I have is Harbour Berthing Tug out of Genoa Italy 1930s - 1940s, and that was the information with the kit, which was 35" in length. Regards Gary.

I have managed to find a better photo, try and spot the globe valves and copper pipe, well it was my first ever venture into the world of steam.

Hi Stephen, the Anteo (a harbour berthing tug,)by Panart and still available is a 1 : 30 scale at 35" in length, a double plank on frame hull, really good quality wood and beautifully turned brass fittings. Expensive at £358.00 but worth every penny as nothing extra to buy except wood glue and paint. This kit has been on the go for fifty-plus years, which is mainly down to its superior quality and good value for money. This could very well be my next build?
