This is the poster I created in 2023.

I'm working on an up to date poster for June 2024.

Also a newspaper article from last year.

Hermank.

It would be a good idea for you, or a member of your club to design/create a poster that can be displayed on social media, in local libraries, cafe's and shared with the newspaper editors/reporters...

Hermank...

You need to give your newspapers, TV and radio stations some human interest.

Our hobby is not just about model boats etc, it's about people.

you came forward with a extremely good idea organising an open day. I know that that the local newspapers are positive towards us....... so may be this is a good idea to attract youngsters. On top of that we are the only club who have 2 ponds at the moment as we definetely have to leave the special one in the near future
thanks for your idea

Dear Hermank.

Easter greetings to you and all your friends in KMYCA.

I enjoyed looking through your website, especially the fotogalerij. I was especially interested in the Zeilen page as I sail model yachts at Rawdon MBC and several other clubs in my region.

Your club is well established after 119 years! Well done.

Rawdon MBC can trace it's history back to 1886. However it has changed it's name a couple of times over it's history.

We have the same problem about recruiting younger people, most of our skippers are in their 60' 70's and 80's. I know of one member who is about 90.

The only way I know to try and recruit new members is to host open days, advertised in the local newspapers and online. But it's hard work, as you know.

Best wishes.

Mike C3 a very happy Easter,
further to your mail which ii do like and secondly, the area where you have your pond.
Hereby the details of our website which is unfortunately not in the universal language called english. but it gives an idea for what we stand.
we do have the following sections: Trains electric and steam
boats electric and steam
lorries electric only
the sailing division with whom it all started 119 years ago( as our pond has been especially buit for us 15O X 30 CM and 1m deep in concrete is about 5m down to groundlevel to avoid wind)left us to a lake with no trees around where they can really modelboat sailing
Every section has his squadron leader.
Every section has his "monthly" meeting to discuss going on projects.
The boat division has from april onwards a montly activity electric and steam( different days and we do not mix them. As a lot of clubs we are always chasing new and young members as our average age is close to 107 years😁😁😁😁
Enjoy your visit to our website

Thank you Rudy, I really appreciate your comments about my website.

The website is set up as you see it so that it won't go "out of date".

The site is meant to be a shop window for anyone trying to find a model boat club in West Yorkshire. Not a place to publish minutes etc.

Having said that what additional info do you think would be appropriate?

Finally the website was built using Google Sites. It is not an HTML site so I am unable to add a sitemap.

Thanks again

Mike. About your question on Google. You only need to add a sitemap to Search Console on Google to allow the site to be indexed. This is typically a file called sitemap.xml. Then you need to create regular content for Googlebot to read. The more relevant and up to date your site is, the better it will rank. Also create a business profile on Google maps. This brings in location based traffic.

Ive been building websites since 2001 and I think your site is great. What I like most is the fact that you address the reader directly from the home page. It invites new members and does not only serve as a bragsheet. Assuming its still a work in progress it needs more content but over time that will come. My only criticism is the use of a yahoo email address instead of the domain but with all the scammers even that is understandable. Well done to the "webmaster". 👍👍👍

Does anyone know how to "encourage" Google to index a new website?

Thanks.

Hello Mike,
I am impressed with the new website because it contains all the information that might be needed by a prospective member without becoming a lengthy, wordy document.
The photographs are interesting and show a variety of craft sailed at the tarn. As a member of another nearby club I was rather surprised to see a picture of my schooner included. I feel quite flattered but think this might be a subtle ploy to get me to sign up to RMBC !
Another good open day on 19th August, if a bit windy.
Good luck with the new website Mike
Cheers 😉

Thank you for the postal code !!! Many, many members on this forum just assume that other readers carry a map of the UK in our heads. In fact, we hav no idea where many of those clubs are located outside of your capital cities.
At a garage sale last weekend I picked up an atlas..."Complete Atlas of Britain", said to be the 1990 edition with "new computer mapping".
This shud be very handy as I read UK members posts.
At the same sale I picked up this diminutive Clyde Puffer. Its a part of the THOMAS locomotive toy series.

To find us, using the postcode LS19 6EQ, look for the farm track where Larkfield Road and Canada Road join up, at the top of the hill.

There has been a model boat club on Larkfield Tarn since the 1930's.

The tarn was built in the 1820’s to provide water for a nearby textile mill but the lake is now owned by Rawdon MBC.

We sail all classes of model boats, Scale, Sail and Fast Electric, on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday mornings from approx. 09:30 until the last keyholder calls it a day!

We also have dedicated Yacht Racing days on Tuesday and Thursday from approx. 09:30 onwards.

You will be sure of a warm welcome at our friendly clubhouse where we have a kitchen, WC’s, workshop, lots of boat storage berths for the bigger model boats and a comfortable social room. But the best view of the lake and the action is from our plentiful outdoor seating.

Tea and coffee will be available! If you come on Sunday morning the Kitchen volunteers make brilliant bacon butties!

Please note, ICE and Fishing are not allowed on the lake.

For more information about Rawdon MBC please email "rmbcmembership@gmail.com”.

Find us on Facebook. “Rawdon Model Boat Club”.
