Inshore fishing boat

So now for the wheelhouse, a cardboard mock-up was made using a 1-24th figure and some photos of fishing vessels in order to get the coamings in the right place for the wheelhouse.

Pieces of aluminium have been fitted under the deck so that there is something to fasten the mast, gantries and winch too.

Alan, better & better. I like your methods, similar to my own. Suck it & see, until it looks right. I have started the clinker boat blog as you suggested, hope you are watching. Can't tell how many hits its getting. Bob

Now that the coaming is in for the wheelhouse, another coaming is made for a skylight just in front of the wheelhouse

Balsa is glued to the frames on the raised deck to take the planking, and the planking started.

Planking on forward deck finished and the skylight made.
The Lime planking was sanded, stained and a couple of coats of sanding sealer
Caulking in-between the planks is black fablon stuck to the edges of each plank, a bit of a pain I must admit

A coaming made on the main deck for a fish hatch (if that's the right word) 3mm balsa laid down to glue the planking too. Planking again made out of Lime from Ikea blinds and glued with super glue. The finished deck sanded and coated with sanding sealer.
The chap in the photo was supposed to give me a hand, but he just stood there with his hands in his pockets 😀

Are they bedroom, kitchen, living room or lounge furniture? 😁

The mock-up was used again with slight mods to make the wheelhouse/bridge (never sure which one it is).
Teak is used to make it and the photo shows it nearly complete with a couple of formers in place for the roof. The skylight has been made out of hardwood, not sure what type though, the skylight is a tight fit and I should be able to remove it to get my didget in and get at the switches

So the next job is the wheelhouse roof.

Cross members made with a slight curve and notched to fit the bridge sides, these were laid in place on the bridge and then the planking was glued to them, this way ensured a good fit. Planks were then sanded down and given a couple of coats of sealer.

The radar motor was fitted

Is it a bandsaw or a scroll saw that you use to cut your timber Alan? ❓

The bandsaws I've seen all seem a bit fierce for delicate work 💭

I have a scroll saw but it is only used for cutting out frames/bulkheads and very little else. The band saw I wouldn't be without, with and a sharp blade you can cut very thin wood. I save the old blades for cutting aluminium and brass.

Thanks Alan - Looks like that's my birthday present taken care of next year. 😁

Time to be a bit harsh and and make a bit of room by clearing the garage of a few of the bits that rarely see the light of day 😭

Can't quite make out the model number - need to check out the kind of spec I should be thinking of 💭

The ceiling for the wheelhouse, this is made from plasticard and will be fitted using 6 brass pins so that it can be removed. The lights are made from pill capsuals with small 12v bulbs fitted behind, not very pretty wiring but whose going to see it but you lot. 😁

Unfortunately Alan part of the getting "another boat" was a vague promise that I would refit the kitchen. 😉 I didn't realise that would entail buying one in the sales and starting it now Christmas is over!! That's my boat building days over for a few weeks :thumbs down:

Well rather than tackle the 1mm x 1mm beading around the windows of the bridge,I thought I would have a go at making something to hold the mast to the deck and the swivel thingy that allows the boom to, well, swivel, so it must be called a boom swivel thingy, could call it a swan neck, but that would be unfair to swans 😁
They have all been made out of brass tube and strip, and soldered, just need cleaning up and painting.

The beadings for the windows are now done, they are made out of 1mm x 1mm Lime and mitred into the corners.
The first few I stuck to my fingers with the super glue, 😭 then I used a pair of tweezers and a tooth pick to apply the glue, much better, no more stuck fingers. 😀
The whole lot was sanded and a couple of coats of sealer
