Ok, I've already built the number one Barge or the Leading Barge, So next is the Second barge also known as a Box Barge.
It measures in at 43" x 7.75"x 2.5/8"
She is a double bottom Barge.

Having looked at all the pieces of wood, and looked at the list of materials it is safe to start working of my barge. Time to start measuring twice and then cutting! lets not forget sanding as well.
Not sure what kind of sealer to use, time to head to the forum and ask questions.

Since the instructions are very vague, it's up to the builder to know how to figure it out.
I started by measuring out all the pieces that are needed to be cut, once cut I glued them together.
I some how feel that when I built the lead Barge, it was easer some how!
I think that when building these Barges, One should build them one after the other.
OK, back to looking at the plans for now!

It turns out that each rib has about an 1/8" on either side.
So you have to cut the excess off or else the sides of the Barge wont fit correctly. the inside of the Barge can be assembled separately. the Barge is made up of two individual boxes, it's basically two boxes that fit into each other. and if made correctly with be unsinkable, at least in theory!

The inner deck of the Barge is suppose to measure 39.3/4", But I notice it measures in at 38.3/4" so what I'm going to do is add some length from a piece of stock that was left over.
Simple fix shouldn't be noticeable after the Barge is completed.

I don't know if this is a problem with all the Dumas Barge# 2.
Or, I just could have been the unlucky recipient of a short inner deck. Thank goodness it was a simple fix

I used claps to hold the sides of the inside box, while gluing the ends to the inside sides. As you see by the last picture the insides glued nicely. Now if only someone would answer my forum question. about what to use to seal my Barge that doesn't smell to much! Guess I'll have to go to the local hardware store and ask.

The sides bow and the stern have been glued together.
The inside of the Barge will be beaded with 3M Caulking, just at the seams. I'm going to do this to waterproof the gaps, that run along the inside of the Barge. I did this on my Lead Barge and it Worked OK.

Ok, so the seams came out irregular, so I used silicone and sealed the gaps. it's going to be painted so who cares, it's going to be dirty anyway. But I figure let's not let water drip it to the inside of the Barge.

The bow and stern are comprised of two pieces of 1/8" ply laminated together.
Which make for a strong bow and stern.
After looking at the way they go on the bow and stern that is,
it's better to glue them in first. before putting on the sides on.

After having glued the sides in place. The sides are fairly easy to glue on, as it's a straight piece of Ply wood.
The major components of the build are made up of 1/8" ply, spruce being used for the Ribs.
The Barges are very light and sturdy, and actually measure in at 42.75". the Barge weigh about 1 lbs.
