Hi Andy.
No nobody has mentioned this to me and i don't thing it has been mentioned to any of the Admin/Moderator team.
Some months ago I posted a thread asking members what there thoughts were on the site and how we could make it better.
We did not get a lot of response just a few that has now been implemented.
However i will pass this on to Stephen (Fireboat).
Do you have any suggestions on how we could improve the site ?
And maybe your friends might like to suggest what they would like to see.

Hi Andy,
RE :- Does it need to say website it’s pretty obvious
I may be wrong but i think when this site was first set up i think was like a trade mark and has stuck ever since.
When you say too many options, do you mean that some things repeat in different places on the home page ?
Again i will pass this on to Stephen(Fireboat)

Hi Andy,
I thought you would like to see a message from Stephen,
I have his permission to forward it to you.
I understand where Andy is coming from. Some design decisions are not the best or most simplistic and some of this is down to my own 'learning as I go' methods. Everything is easy in hindsight, although compared to how the website looked in 2007 - it's come on leaps and bounds.
I've actually been working on another website unrelated to model boats recently and that is much more simple. There's no side bars for one, the header is just a logo and the main page isn't particularly bold, more pastels. But its an online shop, it's only purpose is to showcase products and allow people to buy. There is a lot more involved over here. We've forums, media gallery, blogs, wiki articles, clubs, harbours, members, events, pm's, trending topics, likes, memberships, user profiles, ranks, I mean... maybe that's part of the problem too, but it's too late to remove features.
'Model Boats Website' isn't trademarked, but 'Model Boats' on its own is what the magazine company use, so I prefer MBW.
I'm not averse to changing designs, but it does take weeks to do anything big like that. Probably what's lost a bit is the fact this website (unlike many others) is not package software, it's not been copied, pasted and adapted, everything is coded myself from the ground up. Pro's and con's with this, pro is that it's very bespoke, con being it's difficult to just apply new themes and layouts.
Think any changes to design will be slow really.
If there are any examples of websites where layouts are better, I'm happy for suggestions too.
Stephen

I will ask.

Message back from Stephen.
Still not fixed I’m afraid 😔 I’ll get there...
I think in general people prefer “flat” designs now. White backgrounds, headings that are just bold text, no frills, no borders, nothing in boxes, less colours and graphics.
Something for when I get the lottery win and decide to hire a developer (after a new house, flash car, etc etc) 😁
