Aft gantry

Fixed in position. You can see how I have hidden the wires. Also managed to make and fit the net drum. Now need to make the hanging blocks and light fittings.

Forward handrail

I have used brass wire to bend the shape and then soldered together. The thinner rail is made from brass picture hanging wire. I will spray the whole thing silver to give the impression of stainless steel. Holes have been bored through the deck and it will be glued in place with resin.

Wheelhouse

I have started work on the wheel house.
Firstly I have put a false floor in to raise and level.
Using the foam board I have made the internal fit out as per the drawings. I have used wooden coffee sticks (thanks Cafe Nero) to edge the units.
Then I made the sink, job and grill.
The door has again been made using the wooden sticks backed with thin plastic card.
Windows have been added. These were supplied by Debbie and Andy at modelsbydesign who I would thoroughly recommend.
A kettle is on order for the stove and more details will be made including a seat pad, skippers chair, first aid kit, fire blanket, fire extinguisher, mugs, newspapers and more electronic devices.

Named and numbered!

I have named the boat after my daughter and son. I got the letters from vinylletteringonline.co.uk for a very good price.
The number is just the next in the sequence based on size! I have FE72 which is a small DS25 and FE74 which is a GM33. FE is Folkestone, my nearest register mark.

Wheelhouse detail

The detail in the wheelhouse is nearly complete. The fire extinguisher is my favourite piece. The chair does swivel..

I will add some spare oilskins and a newspaper.

Installed the lights and a fake forward hatch and towing posts.

Fenders and hanging blocks

I finished the hanging blocks last night that go on the gantry for the main trawl gear. All made from craft board.

The fender was made using the ball from a deodorant roll on! A perfect size. I added a screw in metal eye and then sculpted filler round it. I will also use ping pong balls to give some differences in size and colour.

Like the fender idea, I have used the widgets out of beer cans for marker boys with a cocktail stick for the ID flag on top. (end of pot lines). I will have to try and get a photo to add as the app on my new tablet won't let me post a photo.
    Cheers Colin.

Nice idea, I like trying to use a few different sizes as I’ve never seen any fishing boat have a complete set of identical fenders or dans! And having one slightly dented works well too!!

New supplies required!

Had to do the ‘glue run’ today. Was in Southampton so went to the Poundland there to buy my tried and trusted two part epoxy and super glue. The spray cans are also great to have and a new product which I hadn’t seen before were the pack of four tweezers.
All for a £5 note!

Hi. Thanks for the information. I’m actually from Ashford in Kent but I am the retail operations manager for the UK for Musto and Helly Hansen. My job allows me to travel to some great places, last week was Cowes to prepare for the round the island race.

Crew

An early morning boot fair run today has provided me with the first of my crew. At a cost of 50p this ex military man will become a hardened fisherman! Perfect scale means he will be 5ft 6”..
Now all I need is a pair of rubber gloves... 😉
