On the Smit Nederland there is a Ladder.
That goes aloft on the Pilot House!
This ladder has to be assembled!
And as I'm not to good at soldering!
I decided to cheat!
So , I used an STL file (3D Print file)!
It's almost right in height!
But, the width is questionable!
So, I might have to change it's width!
I do think the rungs are in the right place though!
Maybe, eventually I'll get into soldering!
But, I tend to procrastinate! LOL!

I tried soldering photo etched parts recently. Of course, I was immediately disadvantaged as it was part of a Dean's kit.
I ended up using super glue. Some sticky fingers but much better than my soldering attempts.
I've used super glue on several occasions and have always been successful.
Worth a try in the future Ed?
Try soldering on scrap pieces Ed. If soldering small wire, I would recommend an 18 or 25 watt iron. If larger, say 3mm, then 40 to 60 watts is better. Clean the parts to be soldered well with abrasive paper. Use a good quality flux and lightly tin both parts if practical. Place iron on the joint to give sufficient heat and add the solder very carefully as it is easy to add too much. Try to ensure the whole joint area is hot or the solder will not flow properly. It really is down to practice, but I agree, it is fun to do. Don`t forget to clean and flux the iron tip as well as the joint and the solder.
Hi all,
Just thought I say that I'll be starting.
To work on the Smit again!
But, It may be in a few weeks!
As I don't want to start it too soon!
Then, I won't have anything to do during the winter month's!
As all I have left to do on the model.
Is just a few more steps!
I do have another model to build!
But, that's another subject...........
Also another Blog......
Cheers, Ed
I powered winch!
I'd like to have a powered winch on the Smit!
I have been given the idea.
Of using an S9 servo for this task!
But, I'm looking for different ideas.
To make a working winch!
I may never use it!
But, I'd like the idea of have one!
So, will look into experimentation of making the winch!
Stay tuned!
Cheers, Ed
I have to Solder the railing on the Smit!
But, before I solder!
I have to make a lot of bends to the rails!
That would be the easy part for me!
It's the actual soldering that makes me nervous!
Now don't get me wrong!
I know how to solder a joint!
Or solder in general!
But, I've never soldered hand rails before!
So, there's a first time for everything!
Stay tuned!
Cheers, Ed
Well, the Smit doesn't come with a working radar!
But, you can make a working radar!
I have made the holes.
That are needed to run a brass wire.
From the main cabin to the bridge.
And up and out to attach the radar!
I will be using an S9 servo.
Modified to rotate 360 degrees
This is my plan just have to get around to it!
Cheers, Ed
Excellent👍 Go go go Rob😀
Maybe we could get Colin & Caroline to cut/engrave us a batch of wall plaques on their Cricut thingamajig? 😁
(When they can get around tuit!🤣)
