Hi Jon
I suspect you will need to make your own. I used softwood about 10mm thick. Marked a circle to clear the mast size then cut out with a fretsaw or hole drill. marked round the hole about 10mm and cut with fretsaw. Sanded curved edges to final shape, a dremel helps if you have one. You can then stain to match the colour you require. See pic of the mast band on my Cariad. Was a few years ago and it looks like I added a ring of mirror ply to the inside of the ring to stop the wood splitting.

Do you have any working fire monitors, I have just finished my 46" Aerokit fire tender and working monitors will make it more realistic ( the scal of my model is 1inch to 1 foot)

Hi Bill are 1/12 scale boat parts generally hard to get hold of or am i looking in the wrong places. My Boat Katie for instants the mast is 25mm at the lower end of the taper no body supplies mast hoops that big, My question is do builders make them if so what thickness brass do they use as i don't mind making them but never had to make anything like that.

Cheers Jon.

Ladies and Gents.
Re this thread concerning parts and accessories.
If anyone is having problems sourcing any items please feel free to ask me.
I have boxes of bits and bobs most of which I will probably never use both new and used.
Ask away and if I have it and you want it,I am sure we can sort something out.
Regards Bill

Strange that we have many hobby shops around ín SA - about 10 in Capetown alone - but they only seem to cater for Aircraft , Trains, Vehicles & other hobbies. Other than radio equipment they don't have much boat-wise other than a few plastic kits and some now expensive Artesania wood kits......My source of stuff has been two robotics shops - purchasing 9gram servos at less than a third of what Banggood want for them - before the postage !!!!!!!! Recently found an online Hobby Shop about 1100 miles away that has the bits I need to repair my small outboards - from slot cars of course - plus some other useful bits & pieces. They were reasonably priced old stock and delivery via courier is 50% subsidised - received those in three days .

Postage is problematic here - hence receiving the June & July issues of Model Boats - but still awaiting the May one........So ordering bits from overseas is a No No - local delivery is now mostly by Courier - which obviously is very expensive from overseas. Was shown a video recently of PO mail sorters plucking chickens instead - not in our town fortunately - but there are only two members of staff there to handle the counters and sort the mail for nearly 1k post boxes as well as house delivery for which thankfully they have another person - plus they have had to handle the Covid grants to everybody in need - and that's a great number of people...........

Hi Peter.
Sounds good.
I think we all know this problem and do take a risk at times with online products.
As you will know having lived close to Exeter we used to have many model shops.I can remember three I used to frequent for bits and bobs, now there are none 🙁.
Sounds as if you had a good buy with your purchase.👍👍

So true Peter. At one time we used to have many local model shops that stocked or could obtain much of what we sought. Then there were several model shows that were in easy reach of our location. And of course the internet provided sources but at the expense of being an unknown quality until received.
Many clubs list local and postal suppliers on their website but it requires some effort to keep the list up to date.
However we do have a section "Useful Links" and there are some suppliers listed as well as recent articles posted on the forum and a section under "Places" for Model Boat Clubs.
Just like any other post you can share the details.

How many times do you want a better item or a replacement fitting for a project but have no idea as to where to look for them. Not you Martin as you would just make it from a Yoghurt pot.
I regularly meet this issue and have to look around web sites for ages and just rely on a picture as to the quality.
I recently wanted a new working search light for the Police Launch and some Port Holes for my PTB. I found and advert for modelboatbits in the Model Boats mag. I ordered them as I thought the price was very reasonable and worth the risk.
They arrived here in Hungary in around 12 days. Not bad. I opened up the package and wow! The quality of the products was superb. Two working search lights for £9 and ten port holes, 14mm with windows, £6.
It would be good if other members could post some items they have bought and can recommend the source. It would be useful to have a list of all those suppliers of accessories and specialist parts to make searching much easier in the future.
Peter.
I cannot promise to finish one project before starting another. I know, I tried.
