Where to sail?
Firstly, have you tried an internet search to see if any boat clubs in your area?
2/ try contacting your local council, see if they have any pools in their parks, which could be used with their permission.
3/ british waterways canal system is free to use for model boats, but if using them, try to pick a "turn round point" or basin, so you have plenty of space just incase a canal boat/barge decides to come past, as in such a narrow water space, it can cause some heavy swell!
I was stuck for somewhere to sail my boat, and did all of the above to find a few pools etc.
I found 4 model clubs in area, one of which was that stuck up its own **se they wanted to "vet" me in person, to see if they would let me join,[so steered well clear of them] the second 2 welcomed me with open arms, plus a cheque for annual membership. The 4th has not even replied to the email message I sent off a link of their own web site, so how they get on for new members, I dont know.
The local council, put me in touch with their "parks dep't" and they proved very helpful and have 2 council pools I can use free of charge, you just have to watch in the summer months, Kids wanting to paddle and all that!
british waterways took some getting through to, but got their in the end, they were very helpful as they contacted their local officers to check water useage, obviously just be wary of anglers and wildfowl on the water.
Thye also let me know the names of the local boat clubs they were allowed to use their pools too, so works a bit of "both ways".
Please dont give up, it may take a few weeks to get some details, but worth it in the end!
Best wishes.
