I missed a couple that way, too. I would look up the answer, and when I went back to send it in, there was already another question.

Good exercise, though. Some questions took me back to my time on the Pacific and points further west.

That is beautiful. I just feel that too many places are banning IC engines that's why I have fitted a brushless motor in my outboard. This one could have taken an IC as well.

Hi Rick, and another idea would be to drill the shelf bit which sticks out directly over the prop and fit a bit of copper tube, then you get the force of the prop wash for your water cooling. then two holes in the hull above the waterline to get the cooling water in through the escapement and then out and over the side. Choice three would be, stick something like this on the back end, it is a 15cc two-stroke for a twin tunnel hulled racer, from way back when before they invented health and safety. Best wishes for 2022, regards, Gary.

Hi Rick, congratulations on your new rank as an admirable ADMIRAL. Well deserved my friend and a great way to start the New Year. Take care, stay safe, best wishes Gary.
(ps. If you haven't sorted that boat out yet, simply drill the keel fit a piece of copper pipe with a bit of a kink come slightly bent, elongate the hole to open it up a bit, fit silicon tubing to the escapement, plus another tube through the side of the hull to get rid of the cooling water.)

Thank you so very much for the quiz that expanded my mind (instead of my waist).🤣 I missed one 😔 (question #2) as I did not realize the time difference; therefore, the question changed before I got to answer the 2nd one. I don't remember learning any of the nautical terms while in the Navy (except in Bootcamp), maybe because in my day women were not allowed on ships. Helping build them tho, I have learned a lot! Happy New Year to all in the world. Maybe this year we can learn peace and break bread instead of carrying guns and hate that turns into war! Namaste------ps-I do not look like that now! I am much older! 😁 😜

So that's that, the competition comes to an end. Thank you Stephen for all the effort you put into organising it, I'm sure it was appreciated and enjoyed by a lot of people and I for one am eagerly awaiting a successor sometime in the not too distant future.
Happy New Year to all and may it be somewhat better for us all than the last two.

There's not really a finishing position, as it's names out of the hat.

The list of the 20 winners below was just put alphabetically. Some joined half way through, but you only need one correct answer to have a chance of winning. The more correct answers, the higher the chances were. On average people answered 12 of the 31 questions and were correct 93.86% of the time.

Some rough odds based on the 5965 correct entries & 20 winners;
If you got 1 question right: 1/596520100 = 0.34% chance
If you got 31 questions right: 31/596520100 = 10.39% chance

Well done Stephen, a brilliant idea that really caught on hopefully there will be another. I am very surprised that I managed 5th place in the ratings as I didn't bother with the early questions. May I take this opportunity to wish everyone on this site? A Happy New Year for 2022, stay safe, regards, and best wishes, Gary.

The quiz, in my opinion, was perfect for the general membership. If the questions were made too much more difficult, the vast majority would drop out leaving just an elite few to battle it out amongst themselves. Sounds a bit like modern economics really. I, for one, would not take part as the only solution for me would be Google and that would just not be cricket.
Obviously I have no problems with this idea but do not expect a large uptake. I thought this quiz was perfect and look forward to another.
Happy New Year to all.👍😀

"Certainly open to doing this again, daily / weekly / monthly / bi-monthly. Just need a database of questions - or a volunteer for such 😁"
Hi Stephen,
When the euphoria over the success of this great quiz has subsided I believe that any of the above options would inevitably require considerable continuous effort on your part; either trawling for questions your part and/or evaluating and including (coding) inputs from members. Apart from the input work involved such frequent quizzes would most likely mean that it rapidly becomes routine (Yawn😐).
My recommendation would be to keep it annual, year's end, or maximum biannual to not only maintain interest and anticipation but also to provide more time to research and prepare suitable questions. If I can help in that respect let me know, I'll do me best.
Just my thunks😉 maybe I'm not as p***** as I thought I was was, after sharing a bottle of Cremant de Loire to celebrate New Year 😁 Or?🙄
Whatever; many thanks for keeping us going through these crazy years 👍👍👍👍👍👍

"perhaps we could submit trickier questions that you can't google!"
There ain't no question that you can't Google Pete.
Whether you get an intelligent or relevant answer is open to debate!🙄

As for submitting questions; wouldn't / shouldn't the 'submitter' automatically disqualify himself from the competition?
Stephen used a 'Trawler Bot' to scour the world wide widget for nautical related questions for our quiz. (And once upon a time I thought I was pretty good at programming and coding! Ho hum Tempus fugit 🤔 Anyone else remember 5 bit punched paper spools?😐)
Unfortunately Bots will give you all answers within the range of the query parameters, without checking if they are still currently relevant. As shown by the minor hiccup with Gypsy Moth 😮 which many of us picked up on. Next step an AI filter!?
Best wishes, or as my German friends would say 'Mach's gut' (Make it good👍)
Cheers, Doug 😎
PS: If anyone comes up with an applicable 'Google Answer Blocker' algorithm please let Stephen know pronto. Royalties can be discussed later 😁

31th Dec
A type of boat known as a gondola is particularly associated with which city?
A. Barcelona (0%)
B. Istanbul (0%)
C. Venice (99%) - Correct Answer (235 entries)
D. Paris (1%)

I'll announce winners later in the day, but for now some top line stats:
Total Entries: 6,354
Correct Entries: 5,965
Total Members: 522
Countries: 28

Certainly open to doing this again, daily / weekly / monthly / bi-monthly. Just need a database of questions - or a volunteer for such 😁

Obviously it would be without prizes, but a leader board (that resets) would be possible and probably quite good fun.

Happy New Year to all!
