I see we have a new member from Brazil😀 Willarcross aka Wilson.
Bem-vindo a bordo do navio Camarada👍

For those members who are a bit rusty with the Portuguese language (Brazilian or Portugal variant) here is a translation of his 'About me' on his profile😉
"Hello, this is Wilson. I am a lathe operator in the navy in which I have my first passion. I'm a composer, a popular singer, a writer, and I'm very fond of other types of art."

Olá Wilson, Welcome aboard.
Looking forward to seeing the boats you have built / are working on and the Brazilian perspective on Model Boats.

I spent a lot of time in Brazil working with the navy from the late 80s through to 2008.
Mostly at the Arsenal in Rio (Ilha das Cobras) MODFRAG, Inhauma Corvettes and Nael Minas Gerais carrier refit projects. Plus a few visits to the Navy Research Centre in São Paulo and the MOD in Brasilia.
Great times and great people😊
Felicidades, Doug😎
Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug

Thanks for the welcome. I joined in August, but really didn't do much until October. I too am very new to the hobby. I don't feel I have the skillset to tackle a full on build, so I have started out by picking up boats that are old builds and have been abused/neglected and need some TLC to bring them back. I have a couple that are "water ready", if not finished. A couple that I have acquired the necessary pieces to get them ready, and a couple that I'm still researching and scratching my head over. OH, and I did buy a Dumas Skiff kit, a simple build but a way to get my feet wet. My boats and workshop are pictured in my Harbour.
So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Welcome jonb.

Yes, I think one of the reasons for the lack of modern boat kits is that for commercial reasons the drawings are not available. So unless you can do your own and scratch build then options are very limited.

Fairey for instance used to even produce hull lines drawings for models!

Hello and welcome JonB. !!

Welcome on my part, although I have recently been on this ether. But I saw a Huntsman in your collection. I'd have a few more questions about that later. But first I should optimize my hobby room a bit. . until then

Handicraft greetings from Switzerland,

Hi Everyone
Thanks for the warm welcome, looking forward to being able to pick the brains of you seasoned salt dogs !
In middle of 2nd Fire Tender build, difficult to find modern wood build kits I find.
Like many (I should imagine) suffer from not enough space and lack of good tools.
Good thing Xmas is around the corner .😁

Nerys, you just gained another WREN KirstyH😀 and from down your way, in Neath 👍
You'd better pop down there in your NAAFI van welcome her aboard and complete the formalities 😉
(Don't forget the sausage rolls😋.
Thinks; were they called 'Snorkers rolls' in the Navy?
Guess First Lt. Bennett might have done!)
Cheers, Doug 😎

Thank you Nerys!
We are happy to do it, but for example I still have to optimize my workshop and that needs patience, ideas and a woman who can help me with good tips. . .
She's used to optimizing kitchens and the craft room is something more similar, isn't it?
See you soon on this ether !!
Handyman greetings

I notice that our membership is continuing to grow. May I say welcome to all the members who have signed up recently. We are a convivial lot on here and are ready to help wherever possible. If you need help or advice, there is bound to be someone who can help you. Tell us about the boats you have or are building, photos if possible, we are always interested and really are waiting to hear from you.

Cheers, Nerys
