My schooner

That's been a pretty fast build, Ron, doesn't seem more than a week or two since you were drawing plans. She looks pretty good. I'm looking forward to seeing her afloat.

cheers, Nerys
When the winds before the rain, soon you may make sail again, but when the rain's before the wind, tops'l sheets and halyards mind

Hi Ron,

Great job on your Schooner!

I can't wait to see her sailing on the pond! ⛵

Ron,
That looks great! You must have a lot of ballast in her as she does heel over even a bit.🤣

My wife made the sails for the schooner and after securing them it was time for a wind test via a fan.

Gone as far as I can till warmer weather which will allow for priming the hull, filling low spots with spot putty, and final painting.

In the meantime, making a travel container for sails and masts is on my agenda. Plus, my wife went with me to help choose cotton poplin for making sails which I hope to begin doing next week.

The tarred twine arrived this week, a bit heavier than what I’d prefer, but, I bought what was available in 1/4lb versus 1lb spool. I do not know what I would do with a pound of the stuff?

I followed Gary’s instructions from Sail Tales, DIY Making Cotton Sails which you can few on YouTube.

The paper sail patterns are done and my wife will take me to the fabric store to choose the proper cotton fabric.

Ready for standing rigging which is #21 nylon three strand tarred as Gary from bearospaceindustries.com has recommended. Gary and I email each other as he has been giving me advice along the way.

Rudder servo in and works well. The sail control concept is too; a test of the system will be done today with paper sails.

Morning Ron.
Nice to see that your workshop is about as tidy as mine 😂😂
I am interested amongst other things what the model is in pic three to the right of Titanic with 73 on it?

Built the rudder installed it and made a double control arm. I did a hasty quick check, and it works.

She is looking great, but ice out will still be a while. No rush😂

Hull is now fibreglassed as well as the deck. About 3lbs of lead shot has been glued in the bottom, it will need more, and probably a removable dagger with bulb will be added too.

The photos were taken just after the final coat of Varathane, which goes on milky, but dries clear. Final picture is this morning after the fan blew across the deck all night.

The deck will be painted gray, the cockpit and cabin white, hull to be red or black.

Well, my next update is here…Most of the plank on frame is done, just a couple left to be cut and fit. Sanding will be done outside once the temperatures rise, but today it is -20c.

Hi Ron
Looks as though you are pulling it all together. Building from scratch is so enthralling and keeps the mind active.
Looking forward to the next update.

Ah ha, I see. Two sticks... just like your radidio.

My schooner

Got it Ron. I was actually referring how many masts she had, but I think you answered that as well.

My schooner

1 stick for rudder; 1 stick for sails, main and fore. Jib will be set with bowsie and put on a horse along the deck so it can rock back and forth with the wind...😁

Nice Ron!
Is she going to be a single stick or multiples?

Building has begun now that I have the frame material. Using 1/4” birch plywood for the frames, an Oak keel, and cutting with the scrollsaw.
