2.4Ghz Yacht Radio Control System

HI Biggles
I just bought a Dragon 65 and have sailed on a couple of occasions using the supplied radio. Works OK but is fairly basic and possibly better to have a two channel set on 2.4 with slightly better gimbals.

As Stephen says there are cheaper options and any combo set should work well. The Rudder is fairly fierce and the supplied set has a 70% setting which helps at speed. Some of the cheaper sets don't have this facility so you may want to spend a bit more to get a set with more adjustments such as dual rate and EPA, useful to adjust the winch travel end point.

This may have been your reasoning for selecting the Futaba.

As well as GiantCod you may want to look at Howes offerings.

If you Google RG65 there is a web site and details re mods etc.

Great fun and sails very well with the other yachts on our lake. 😀

2.4Ghz Yacht Radio Control System

HI Biggles, welcome to the website. Have you looked at options other than Futaba? Futaba do do good radio sets, but quite often they're very over priced. 2.4GHz radio sets from any company are reliable radios (at least so far I've not heard of any being poor).

Most of the Futaba 2.4Ghz range is at least 6 channels, and I think the cheaper one of the lot is the 6EX FASST (which I have). it's a good system, although I fortunately make most of all the channels too with lighting, water pumps, horn, music etc! Probably in most cases the other 4 will be a waste. These are still roughly £160 looking at Google....

Have a look here: http://www.giantshark.co.uk/transmitters-c-40_161.html There are some decent cheaper radio sets.

One thing to note though, once you have a radio, it can be used for an infinate number of models. With 2.4GHz it's really easy to setup additional receivers and most (definitely Futaba) tranmitters can have seperate calibration settings for each model.

Hope this helps a little! I'm sure other members out there can give their recommendations too.

2.4Ghz Yacht Radio Control System

I've recently got back to Model Boating, I have bought a Joysway Dragon Force 65, I would like to upgrade the radio control system, preferably to Futaba, but don't know which transmitter/receiver to purchase, any help would be gratefully received.
