Fleet Review

Nice to know Derek and well put. I did 4 years in the RAF so have been on parade more than a few times. There was a comment on the media about marching behind a band, that it up-lifted the marchers, and it does!

Spare a thought for those marching, you have to concentrate and march in step allowing for the music which travels through the air more slowly not to upset the timing and keeping in step.

For the slow marching there is a small sway to left and right and it is easier to follow this than the music.

Fleet Review

At the time of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II I was serving in the Royal Marines and was with the Landing Craft Wing at the Royal Marine Barracks, Eastney. For the Coronation itself I was a member of the street lining party, firstly on The Embankment and then in Whitehall - a most memorable day. For the Fleet Review our landing craft were used as 'liberty boats' to take the crews of the ships at Spithead for their 'runs ashore' - another memorable day. Today will be a very sad day for me personally as most of my life was spent serving our Queen as a member of the Royal Marines and the Metropolitan Police and I am a great believer in our new King and the members of his family.

Fleet Review

With the nostalgia thing around it would be great to see a Spithead review, Queen Victoria's one was 25 miles long. Might be nice to see Turbinia come out as well, she is still faster than any of the capitol ships!

Do you think they can repair enough warships to take part and make it worth while?

Fleet Review

Looking forward to happier times, it has long been the custom to hold a Royal Fleet Review at Spithead following a Coronation. I wonder if we will be treated to one after the Coronation of King Charles.
