Hi, my socks arrived this morning. Many thanks!
When meeting others with the same socks remember the rules of the road.

"Green to green red to red, perfect safety go ahead. To act as judgment says is proper: To Port or Starboard, Back or Stop her. And if upon my Port is seen A Steamer's Starboard light of Green, I hold my course and watch to see That Green to Port stays Clear of me. But when both lights you see ahead
"Port your helm"
And show your Red.

One more thing !
Idea of two-tone socks are perfect, but beware, who puts them on wrong runs backwards according to color recognition!

Hi Martin. I do not think that many people will be saying that they have two different color socks on. It is a bit too cold to wear shorts here. Maybe I will roll my pants up a bit so that everyone can see my two different color socks. Just got to make sure I have the correct port and starboard on the right foot🤣LOL?

RonH,
When you go to your event, I would be interested to know how many people mention the fact that you are wearing different coloured socks.

Martin.
If it looks right it probably is.

WOW! Received the Prize yesterday. Just want to say thank you very much. I will be wearing the socks this weekend at a Cabin Fever Breakout in Pennsylvania (USA). This is a indoor event and they set up a very large pool to sail in. I will be bringing one of my steamboats. So if your there look for me with my Port and Starboard socks.
Steve Thank you again.

30th Dec: Pirates were so superstitious, they would usually throw someone with what name, overboard?

A. Solomon (1%)
B. Jonah (90%) - Correct Answer
C. Neptune (6%)
D. Poseidon (3%)

A "Jonah" is a long-established expression among sailors, meaning a person (either a sailor or a passenger) who is bad luck, which is based on the Biblical prophet Jonah. Clergymen are considered bad luck, as they are all of Jonah's ilk. Redheads and women are also to be avoided as passengers.

29th Dec: A sideways movement created when the propeller is spinning, is called what?

A. Prop Walk (88%) - Correct Answer
B. Goose Winging (3%)
C. Pitch (7%)
D. Squall (2%)

A clockwise (right-handed) propeller in forward gear will tend to push the stern of the boat to starboard (thereby pushing the bow to port and turning the boat counter-clockwise) unless the rotation is corrected for. In reverse gear, the turning effect will be much stronger and with opposite direction (pushing the aft to port). A counterclockwise (left-handed) propeller acts analogically to the right-handed but with all rotation directions reversed.

I called a friend,my son,who is a submarine and he gave 180 days or however long it took for the crew to mutiny! It was interesting reading up on how cans of food were stored. Thanks for running the quiz Stephen.

27th Dec: How long can the food supply typically last on a Royal Navy submarine?

A. 30 days (2%)
B. 90 days (56%) - Correct Answer
C. 180 days (30%)
D. 365 days (12%)

Typically the only thing limiting operation is the amount of food and other supplies submarines can carry, which usually lasts for about 90 days. For reference, that would be 18,000 sausages and 4,200 Weetabix, just for breakfast!

The question is asking what’s typical. 180 days isn’t so typical, but with planning I imagine long periods of time can be achieved.

It’s an interesting one!

Today's question about submarines answer is wrong, read below:-

The Royal Navy has released figures showing just that after nuclear submarine HMS Torbay returned to her base-port at Plymouth following a routine six-month underwater, therefore the answer should be 180 days.

26th Dec: What name was given to the tugboat in the popular Canadian children's television series?

A. Theodore (72%) - Correct Answer
B. Tuggy McTugFace (2%)
C. Timothy (6%)
D. Toby (20%)

Theodore Tugboat is a Canadian children's television series about a tugboat named Theodore who lives in the Big Harbour with all of his friends.

The show deals with life learning issues portrayed by the tugs or other ships in the harbour. Most often, the tugs have a problem, or get involved in a struggle with each other or another ship, but they always manage to help one another resolve these problems and see them through. Their main focus however, is to always make the Big Harbour the friendliest harbour in the world, and to always do a good job with their work related tasks.

Theodore Too (pictured) is a large-scale imitation tugboat built in Dayspring, Nova Scotia in 2000, based on the fictional Theodore Tugboat. Theodore Too was moved to Hamilton, Ontario, his new home, on July 18, 2021.
