Question of the Day?
Most of the rest is not printable!

Question of the Day?
But you're a self confessed computer man so, depending on the device/OS you use, you should be able to work some out for yourself.
Just like I did😉
Happy investigating🤞
Cheers, Doug 😎
Question of the Day?
We did do 2 years of Latin and then onto Geometry Theorems, they seemed to like a bit of Latin
My Question of the Day! How many of you have used algebra since leaving school. I confess I have, but only a few times, honest!
I should have given some answers!
a, never b, what is algebra c, Titanic d, till it hurts
From being told "Could do better" in maths I spent my main career working out why computers and their antecedants kept getting wrong answers.
It all turned out to be a funny old world.
Regards
Roy

"The Code Européen des Voies de la Navigation Intérieure (CEVNI; European Code for Navigation on Inland Waterways) is the European code for rivers, canals and lakes in most of Europe.
Not all European countries use CEVNI for their inland waterways. The United Kingdom, the Nordic countries, Spain, Italy and the Balkans except Croatia have their own regulations."
😎
Question of the Day?
I have a license to operate my large one inEuropean inland waters as well.
I think I had better go back and do the CEVNI again😬😬😬

Question of the Day?
Question of the Day?
with regard to today's question, I associate the word shipwreck with the likes of storm seas, hurricane winds, and running aground on rocks or whatever. The USS Indianapolis was first bombed by the Japanese, then after being repaired was hit by two torpedoes and sank, with a great loss of life. Mind I could be wrong of course as I usually am with the quiz questions so far, and yesterday's was no exception to this rule I opted for WIND. Regards, Gary.
Question of the Day?
I have to say that on reading the question I instantly went for USS Indianapolis.(Rightly of Wrongly).
I instantly discounted the others purely on the date given in the question.
This potentially could be a real topic for a debate on literal correctness.
The debate being on the difference between a Novel and a Book.(Too long to type here but look it up)
Indeed I can find no NOVELS on the Indianapolis but there are numerous BOOKS written on this tragic sinking and whilst I agree I wouldn’t call the film exactly famous it certainly was graphically correct.
A debatable typo worded question down to individual interpretation, but I feel that the correct answer is Indianapolis.
We also have to remember this is a light hearted quiz and not University Challenge 😂😂.
I could well be wrong…the wife frequently tells me I am!!
Hope that makes sense.
Regards
Bill
Question of the Day?
Seems to be a typo in this question! As none of these ships sank in 1942!
Problem is - Which typo?🤔
Either 1912 instead of 1942 -> correct answer Titanic, film and books? Check. But novel, can't find one. Survivors accounts in book form apparently existed??
Several films were made, including a silent movie starring a survivor. Famous is of course James Cameron's in 1997.
or
1941 instead of 1942 -> then Arizona (Pearl Harbor) is correct, film yes, novel not that I can find.
or
1945 instead of 1942 -> then Indianapolis is correct. On her return voyage from delivering to Tinian island the Uranium and other parts required for the assembly of the atomic bomb codenamed "Little Boy", which would be dropped on Hiroshima a few weeks later.
Film yes, novel not that I can find? Film was not exactly famous.🙄
Lusitania was sunk in 1915 by U20 so would mean a double typo! Less likely. But-
Several novels, one animated film (1918) and docus (2007 and 2012).
So it's Russian Roulette folks!🤔
The odds favour Titanic but I ain't in a gambling mood this time.
Cheers, Doug 😎
Question of the Day?
This could be exciting, will I be seeing more than one coronation today? I would like more proof so I am checking my model boats to see if there is one where I do not remember its' history. As Captain Oates once said, "I shall be gone a while"

Question of the Day?
This is the second time we've met ourselves coming back!😮
With all this toing and froing we can't tell our keels from our bottoms any more😁
We'll have to do a Warp 10 slingshot round the Sun (on my mark Mr Sulu) to get back to 'our' present - whenever that is!
Oh Mobius Mobius wherefore art thou Mobius?
😎
Question of the Day?
There is definitely some deja vous at work here, or perhaps I really am a time traveller but just don't know it? A sort of extension of the Ground Hog Day effect!
It is all very worrying just as I think I am settling into retirement and have covered all the issues only to find out there is an alto ego of me wandering around the Time Continuum.
On the other hand is it Windows 11? Struggling to find where they hid all the essentials this time around. I hope I never get to Windows 12!
Oh well I expect tomorrow may be like today but how will I know?
Roy
Question of the Day?
I would not recommend that course of action Commodore.😠
It would be a flagrant disregard of quiz regulations and conduct unbecoming of a Flag Officer, resulting in a Disciplinary Hearing and a Severe Reprimand would be entered on your Service Record.

Question of the Day?
Actually, I think the answer to that might be Texoma, but I’m not sure.
Question of the Day?
Arrived at the 'correct' (🙄) answer by simple elimination, but a Mull is not a sea passage but a hill or promontory, as in the southern tip of of Kintyre (Mull of Kintyre) which is the closest point to Northern Ireland. But I've never heard of a 'Straight of Kintyre' which would make more sense. And yes, I have travelled the west coast of Scotland and the coast of Northern Ireland from Belfast to Londonderry. Giant's Causeway is phenomenal😉

Cup of coffee time I think, then it is a quick go round the house with the D***n before my dear wife returns from holiday.

Question of the Day?
I can relax now just got to sort out how to get my second email account on there as well.
Sundays back in the day were rest days the shops were shut hymns were sung and you usually got a good lunch.
Where did it all go? I used to sing in the choir but am now relegated to the shower. We used to go for a walk after lunch with the 2 children (whether they liked it or not) or perhaps a morning sail of a boat if not required for the choir.
I think this all fits in with Question of the day? I suppose we all have to answer the Q of the D first before we can read the posts.
Carry on carrying on.

Question of the Day?
"Who is this daycart bloke? I know the Americans had an Oxcart, any relation?"
Yes Roy, the Americans did have an Oxcart project.
The objective being to design a replacement for the U2 pop group.😁
U2 having been rendered obsolete by developments in Russian Ground to Stage Culture Defence Missiles (GTSCDMs).
Designed at the Kentucky 'Skunk Works', an old Bourbon distillery, it was the first Oxcart to attain MACH 3.2 in level flight at 83,000 feet.
Much to the the surprise of the Ox!😮🙈
No apparent relation to Ronny Daycart.
He was a renowned French mathematician and philosopher who in 1637 was appointed Chief Designer of a fast transport required for the emergent French Army Air Force.
The transport was to be named after Ronny and designed at the 'Usine de Moufette' plant in Toulouse. Later to become the Airbus central assembly plant.
Unfortunately the novelty of the design, and consequent necessity to push back the boundaries of known science, metallurgy and engineering practices of the time in a quantum leap, resulted in such horrendous development costs 🤑 (Cost overruns🙄) that taxes had to be raised to unprecedented levels.
The consequent civil unrest, due to most of the population being reduced to poverty and hunger, simmered for ca 150 years and ultimately resulted in the French Revolution some 150 years later.
It was rumoured that a Queen Consort, on hearing that the proletariat could not afford to buy bread, replied "Let them eat cake".
History does not document if the 'Daycart Project' ever got off the ground.😁
Probably mainly due to the problems encountered in fitting 34,000 horses, in twin mounts, to the cartframe as were required to meet the Army's speed specification, i.e. Paris to Moscow under two hours. It is not documented if problems met trying to achieve the necessary power to weight ratio were ever satisfactorily resolved.
During initial tests problems with overheating wheel bearings were also reported. 🤣 A polymer based grease was proposed but never came to anything as no one knew what a polymer was and there was no French word for it.😂
Daycart himself did not live to see the first prototype being built. He died of pneumonia in 1650 while on holiday in Stockholm, shacked up with Queen Christina in her cold and draughty castle.
I trust that this clarifies your query to your satisfaction Roy.

Question of the Day?
When eventually and finally EDF revealed they had humans, they sorted out my Smart Gas meter. Now the robot can have as long a chat with my meters as they like.
The humans who arrived were really nice I expect the robots hold members of the family as hostages, to encourage good behaviour? It took over 2 years for the work to be done, which is why I thought I was in some Kafkaesque universe alone with a computer.
Did I ever tell you I hate computers? I spent my working life going out to look at broken ones, sometimes sitting up all night with them!
During that time I also had to encourage other guys to go out and do what I did. They did not deserve that but the company used to screw money out of these computer owners and in my chagrin I took the money they offered to feed my own wife and children.
Then when you get thrown out everyone needs a computer and need to be able to type just to keep up. I have to get past my anti conditioning just like that!
So reality Where art thy sting?

Anybody know how to import my address list into my new laptop?
