Question of the Day?

StephenT, I totally agree, you build from keel up. So keel must be bottom of boat.
The hull is a protective skin

Surely the bottom of the boat is the Keel for what other reason is it there as its below the cladding the Hull is the object that hold the cladding and the keel bit like saying what the sea bed called these question are daft

Question of the Day?

Commodore Cash,
Fleet Admiral CIC Munich Squadron, completely agrees with Lt. E.T. Cat. and commends him. By virtue of his seniority years and leadership and valour shown in the Oklahoma Rabbits Wars Lt. Errol is herewith field promoted to Lt. Cdr. Hearty miaows Errol👍

As Lt. Cdr. Errol observed; a most questionable 'correct' answer (not the first one either) and peculiar interpretation of 'bottom'.
Other interpretations we are well aware of thank you gentlemen!🙉

Totally agree chaps.
Having got it wrong and instantly realizing my mistake took me back 50 plus years to my primary school teacher who used to shout across the classroom as he threw the chalkboard rubber “Next time boy read the £&@);: question at least twice before you make a fool of yourself.”
Should have listened.
Take care all
Bill.

Sir in defending myself I plead that my mind is still on Australia time i.e. 9 hours ahead. I am still jetlagged and if you note the time of this post it is quarter to 4 in the morning. What fool in the UK would be up and awake at this time?

Question of the Day?

Please do Not remember me of the fantastic times we had. 3 men on a Halberg Rassy 43 feet without our wives every weekend and 3 weeks in summertime. What Else Could à man ask for. I Must say i have been in Heaven. Sailing on the sea with 2 Friends à Bow filled with red and white wine and champaign-classical music - 4 beaufort wind- Heaven this Must be heaven

Question of the Day?

Hi all, I agree with the confusion. I was out sailing in a Beneteau 40 Oceanis less than 2 weeks ago and the 'correct' answer is in use the whole dam time. I had to look up the last option as I had never heard of that anyway. So upwind down wind on a reach or whatever the mainsail is in use.
Only once in an emergency was a genoa unfurled very quickly I might add to get us out of a difficult situation. The question posed to my son who is a qualified offshore Yachtmaster said it was an odd set of options. And I would trust him with my life in charge of a yacht!

Great questions. Prompting me to know more about the subjects concerned. Did you know that the first measurement of longitude on a ship was on the Aurore in 1767? It was a French expedition under de Montmirail.

Question of the Day?

Just a thought on the flush deck question. Having got it wrong (again!) thought I would learn a bit more. Every day is a school day! It seems a chap working for the East India Company as their chief marine architect, Gabriel Snodgrass, in the 1770s picked up the idea from seeing Indian sailing vessels while in Bengal. He then applied it to his designs and the rest, as they say, is history!

Question of the Day?

Hi StephenT,
Yes Pilotage does also mean the payment (compensation) for a Pilot Service when entering or exiting difficult anchorages.
The other meaning though has to do with navigation, which of course the local 'Pilots' must master for their area.
BTW: You realise, I trust, that you have let the 'cat out of the bag' for all our members west of the Greenwich date line?? 🙄
But a simple process of elimination should also lead to the correct answer😉

Question of the Day?

Hi Rick,
Reckon you're right about the first two infamous 'can't-bes', but I'll bet that most UK/Commonwealth members would have also instantly recognised the third😉 Remnants of which were found off the south coast of UK and preserved at tremendous effort and cost!
This is reflected in the jump of correct answers from the UK.
Anyway, a simple process of elimination should suffice; northern European/US names in Greece in 4BC? I don't think so😉
