Question of the Day?

I know they were making brilliant lenses in the early 19th century, but not with the level required to make a fresnel lens - another wrong educated guess.

Question of the Day?

I believe fresnel lenses floated on a bed of mercury for smooth rotation. No wonder lighthouse keepers went mad!

Question of the Day?

Another one wrong. Just as I was heading up. I thought the EQ Bulkhead was to obvious and misleading and couldn't find reference to the actual wording in the SOLAS regulations. Maybe Ai made it up. 😠

I knew collision and watertight and I guessed longitudinal was a stress member from bow to stern!

Question of the Day?

Hi all, I agree with Ed, marine biology is a specialist subject and throwing unknown names which have been attached to natural phenomena is really out of our area of knowledge or interest.

Yesterday's question was a no brainer and today a no bother. I will see how often the subject of plankton blooms comes up in conversation in next few weeks!

I got the question right on the principle that a named event is less likely to be the answer than a described event.

Question of the Day?

As I posted earlier three of them cause upflow.
Coastal upwelling will cause plankton bloom lose to the coast but what about when it happens n the deep sea 🤔

Question of the Day?

Easy one to get right by studying the question. ie, Vertical transport in the question, "upwelling" in the answer choices...

Question of the Day?

I think the current batch of questions have no relation to ships and boats and our answers are based on guesses.
As todays, and some of the previous few are based on marine phenomena that very few people actually get involved with.

Question of the Day?

@BOATSHED - The Android App was removed from the Google Play Store - my fault, I didn't fill in a tonne of developer details they were asking for before the deadline!

Hoping they'll re-instate it soon, but I don't know how long it'll be yet.

Question of the Day?

Please Stop sending me emails telling me to answer the question. I was 45 minutes late. I live in Canada, my time zone is different than most of you, so if I'm 45 minutes late, too bad I answer questions right, but don't seem to get more than 87%, I may have to leave the question of the day!! I was late today because our club has a show, Boats in the park & I needed to charge some batteries

Question of the Day?

I agree a short conversation with that guy would have me running the other way. There are a lot of them about. The ones that know what they are doing, look worried and generally busy. He was none of these things.

Met a guy earlier this year just like that, all grand proposals and plans and looking pleased with him self. But he wasn't busy and doing and short of time for a chit chat. Fortunately only a large area for a miniature railway, which I doubt will come to fruition.

Well I never,
The Email's must be well up the Shute.
I had been days with no Emails from this site coming through, then all of a sudden today, that's after saying yesterday about nothing coming.
I have been flooded with about 8 or 9 Emails coming in.
What has gone WRONG??
Oh well at least I don't have to search for the Question of the day now.
I got todays right. But still no mention of the Titanic.

Question of the Day?

I thought that HMS Hood damaged Bismarck’s fuel tanks during the sea battle which led to the sinking of Hood. Didn’t that lead to the final sinking of Bismarck? She had to slow down to dog for repairs, or so I thought. 😳

I was away for a few days so I missed answering about 9 days questions.
So It will be about 4 years and another good few months on top of that before I start to get anywhere.
That's if I am lucky enough to get some of them correct.
I got todays wrong for a start. That's not good going.

Question of the Day?

Well well well, I thought the rest unlikely and expected to descend further. I have seen rip tides and was in one with an inflatable paddle board (with seat and canoe paddle). I was towed out of it by a passing fisherman. So I knew the wind had little to do with rip tides. That was only 3 years ago, so still taking risks at 80+.
