Question of the Day?

I know this type of vessel well.
The xebec has a hull that I like and is very fascinating.
It is very beautiful to build. I think that one day, I will look for it in the cellar, I will finish some details that I had to complete and I will show it in the Harbour Section of this website.

Question of the Day?

I was expecting the name Titanic to come up maybe.
Just a sinking feeling on my behalf.
At least I got todays question correct.
I got yesterdays wrong and I didn't answer the days before at all as I couldn't even give it a guess.

Question of the Day?

You are absolutely right Dave and your choice was very coherent.
There are those who complain but can't stop playing. I certainly don't blame those who do it, but it's a human aspect that intrigues me a lot.

Question of the Day?

Alessandro,
I haven't declared it publicly, but I have indeed stopped playing and/or paying attention to the game.
I was just finding myself frustrated by ambiguous questions, wrong answers, and the correct answer not being one of the given choices.
Even though I had enjoyed the QOD in the past, I decided the aggravation created by the current condition of the game more than offset any pleasure.
I don't want to judge others ... if they still find enjoyment, I'm glad they continue to play.
Dave B
So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Question of the Day?

Everyone (or almost everyone) complains about the AI (and rightly so) but then no one abandons the game, despite many having promised it several times.
This is very interesting. It means that the game is very appreciated and intriguing. When gross and misinformative errors are eliminated it will become an instructive pastime.
For this reason I applaud new ideas and initiatives to propose to Stephen like the one by Nick.

Question of the Day?

Looks like the A.I. is going through the anniversary of things that happened in the past.

I suspect most will guess as I did although S class subs were the first fitted with a snort.

It is all getting too obscure.

Question of the Day?

It's not a bad idea at all, you could try it.
I don't think it's that easy though.
It would take some applications (various modelers should give their availability).
Then the administrator should choose and create a sort of calendar. Very demanding for him.
Interesting initiative though.

Question of the Day?

Hi Nick & Commodore,
I agree👍 but it would only work if there was a corresponding answer.
Such as: OK clever clogs, so you saw through my little deception😁
Otherwise you'd simply be marked 'Incorrect' - same as if you didn't answer at all.

Question of the Day?

This is getting very tiresome🙄 Some 70 to 80% of Notifications are complaints about the blunders of our so called AI. Which seems to have got stuck in a ship launch / research vessel rut.
Not one of those ships was launched in 1899. The AI even contradicts it's/his/her-self in the answers! How daft is that?😐
Albatross was launched in 1882, commissioned on December 30th. In 1899-1900 she was underway in the Pacific.

Question of the Day?

I think an additional answer of 'I don't know' would be appropriate. It would also be right.

Joke, two guys, Alan and Bert are up for a technical job both with the same qualifications. The interviewer decided to call them in for a test.
He set 10 questions for them and both got 7 out of 10 right.

He called them both in and said Alan has the job. Bert protests and says that's not fair, we both got the same score in the test.
Interviewer says "Alan answered question 6 as I do not know" He turns to Bert and says "your answer was, Neither do I"

Calypso was a converted BYMS mine sweeper and was in service with the RN until sold out of service and turned into a floating oceanographic research vessel...

Question of the Day?

Well I am going to give up with this. Not sure how it could be the RV Atlantis in 1938 as it was launched in 1996. I went for Calypso as the only sensible option. As it happens I will be away for a week and will not be able to get on the inter-web off things. The last time I didn't answer a question my score went down. So by the time I get back it will probably be at ZERO. If it is I am off. I am sad about it as I very much enjoy researching the answers as it keeps the old grey matter active.😌

Question of the Day?

Wrong answer! The correct answer should be RV Knorr, and hydrothermal vents were not discovered until 1977. I selected the Knorr as I have followed the exploits of Bob Balard for years but AI got it wrong again...

Question of the Day?

Hi Doug,
I just think that there should be some relationship to model boats rather than obscure (and inaccurate) historical facts. And duplications but they have already been commented on.
Having said that I continue to enjoy this site!

Cenbeth.
The basic premise of the QotD quiz has always been 'Maritime' not specifically Model Boats.
Aren't there already enough Model Boats specific Qs and As on the Forum itself?

OK, so it was easy enough to answer this one yesterday a week or two after it was previously asked, but asking the same question two days in a row is taking it too far (or maybe too close).

Question of the Day?

A.I. has no knowledge of time passing and is not in the real world. A concept or an emulation of something real but no knowledge of existance.

Back in the day when computers were the actual centre of many companies, change was resisted as it could also mean a re-write of operational programmes. So some of the new faster and very different advances in computer hardware were able to run an emulation of the previous operating system so the customer ran his workload as before.
It often worked better that way as well!

Our A.I is unreal and does not know that the o/p we see is a 'contested' set of questions, let's hope it never finds out it is at the bottom of the human pecking order!

AI is wilfully circumventing Stephen's NO REPEATS order by simple rephrasing the question😠
