Question of the Day?

What an awful question!!!

It's a war memorial!!

Because the Arizona is considered to be a memorial, it is unlawful for divers to enter the ship, so careful egresses are made using underwater rovers that document interior conditions.

Question of the Day?

Have you considered fitting a motion detection video camera?

We installed one in a dark green cover up high on a tree branch to record anything that moved. We were sure that the next door neighbour was coming onto the land and doing some dumping of soil. This was at our club site. He had already annexed some space at the end where his own garden came around the back of our site.
Mainly got wild life or perhaps he saw us do it?

Question of the Day?

Eeee there's nowt like a shopping trolley or a pushbike to present a hazard to navigation for model boats or snag up your fishing gear. UK canals and lakes are full of 'em. Even the odd corpse turns up now and again....

Question of the Day?

Michel Bonjour, à good rainy morning overhere,
Our sailing pond 100x 40 meter has been especially built for our club. With 2 terrasses going down we have no problem with the wind. The pond is in concrete also the bottom and is 1 meter deep. We had to built a fence around to avoid that people throw all their old metal beds, refrigerators into it. We realised this when we put in the bows for our monthly competitions. And even now every time we arrive we need to gather the empty tins . People do not have any respect knowing that there’s a BIN to throw it in!!!!
Everything begins with education but sometimes I wonder if parents do know what it is!
I know I m getting old but I had to reply. It’s stronger as myself

Question of the Day?

Good Morning all,
. . . . It's actually crazy what lies at the bottom of the sea. .
It doesn't look any better here when our diving community calls for the lakes to be cleaned up!
I wonder where certain people's brains are!!!? 🙈🙈🙈🙈
Have a nice day,
Michel-C.
Ps: Sorry, didn't mean to play the moraliser . . .

I thought USS Arizona was a restricred dive site and you need a letter from The Allmighty to get anywhere near. This discussion seems to ring a bell....

Question of the Day?

Besides being a war grave, Arizona is ALSO in the middle of an active US Navy base.
It would be a little like diving around the piers of Portsmouth...😁

Monty used to say he had a picture of Rommel in his travelling office in the desert, so he could get to know the man!
Reality was he was being fed 'Ultra' secrets from Bletchley Park.

Question of the Day?

I agree Doug, it is a wonderful world!
AI may be of some use somewhere but some also think that this is another item that can be merchandised. I assume it has a lot of embedded politicians and consequently we are getting a lot or c**p as o/p.

Religion and politics will be the death of us all. I am sure somebody said that! Do your best to avoid other people's mantras and live life with a good regard to others.

Nobody Ross!
AI, Artificial Intelligence allegedly does it.🙄
God (whoever your personal preference may be) help us when AI takes over the running of the world (and it's predecessor Google😮).
Hope I'm not around to suffer under it.
On the other hand-
Might be marginally better than Trump!!! (I did say MIGHT!)
'What a wonderful world!' Last word from Munich tonight to 'Ole Satchel Mouth'.

Question of the Day?

PS to 'Gunner Who'?
For the uninitiated and/or puzzled, that is the title of part of Spike's autobiography/memoirs, written in his own unique, inimitable, humorous style.😂🤣
The title harks back to his service in WW2 as a gunner in an artillery battery in North Africa, part of the 8th Army under General (Monty) Montgomery.
A highly recommendable read.
Cheers, Doug😎

Question of the Day?

None of the above. The USS Arizona is National Park memorial War Grave property that can not be dived upon. None of the other answers relate to the Pacific.

Question of the Day?

It's obvious at first glance at the proffered answers that USS Arizona (only one that went down in the Pacific) is meant.
BUT: USS Arizona as a popular dive site??? I don't think so.
I always understood that the wreck is a designated War Grave and as such private diving is forbidden.
The makers of the documentary on her fate and current condition (Lost Ships series) had to obtain special permission from the National Parks Service, who manage the wreck site and the Memorial centre built across it, to dive the site and explore the interior of the wreck.
I will never forget the comment of one of the survivors when speaking of his lost shipmates
"They went to bed ... and they never woke up".

Hi Ed. Roy is going to Woy Woy.
Not far from where Spike Milligan used to live. In the Woy Woy library they have a room dedicated to him and not far away a footbridge named after him.

Question of the Day?

Phew! Ehat was a close one, just glad Titanic was not an option!

Sunday now, so starting the countdown to my annual migration to the land of Oz. I shall be starting the yearly 'packing ceremony today I may even have list, if can remember where I put it.
There are not so many model boats there, just the real thing. The marinas are stacked full of yachts all with white sails! Weather might be a trifle wet, so fingers crossed.

Question of the Day?

Although I chose the right answer as far as the options were concerned. My answer is wrong because the Mull of Kintyre runs into the "North Channel" and that separates Scotland and Northern Ireland.😀

Question of the Day?

Mull of Kintyre is actually the tip of the Kintyre Peninsula and is land. The channel of water is known as the North Channel and connects the Irish Sea to the North Atlantic.

Question of the Day?

None of the answers are correct in my opinion. The only one that is a stretch of water is Belfast Lough. All the others are chunks of land . After a bit of research I believe one of the options should have been North Channel.😊

Question of the Day?

Just had a look on Wikipedia, a "Mull" is a rounded hill, an extremity, headland or promontory, so not actually a stretch of water. You could say it's a stretch of land I suppose...

Question of the Day?

Check the charts. Its offically designated the North Channel with the western approach to the Mull of Kintyre.🤓
I chose Mull of Kintyre as answer because it was the closest to that point

Question of the Day?

I agree Nick, except that it is surrounded on three sides by water.
It is a peninsular with a somewhat amusing shape on a normal Mercator projection map😮🙈😁
So not a stretch of water at all. Another 'None of the above' question🙄
I always thought that the actual name of that stretch of water is 'North Passage'.
Something like this came up in a QOTD some months back.
Caused a controversy back then as well.
Elimination of three nonsense answers led to the Holmesian conclusion that the MoK was the solution looked for.
Ciao, Doug😎

Mull of kintyre is a land mass and no connection to water, in fact none of the answers are right.

If these questions are based on the American question of the day again they have got it wrong.
