Question of the Day?

I do not see how 'intricate and detail' work is relavent? I shall still use my jig saw and I would use my A4 size circular saw for cutting precise straight in small pieces of wood.
In this question Titanic woulkd have been a valid option!

Question of the Day?

Hey all,
I also prefer my laser cutter for thin wooden panels. Since then, my parts have been very accurate, which made me decide in favour of buying this device.
The important thing is to take the time to test and find the perfect settings.
Patience, people, patience is the modeller's most important quality, use it,
because everyone has it!
Everyone works the way they do best and that's what I like about all your boats.
Best regards,
Michel-C.

Question of the Day?

They still make the ropes in Chatham, but only for the Navy so I have heard. But it was never as big as Portsmouth that is the largest in England, and not used for as much of the Naval purposes as Portsmouth.

Question of the Day?

Even though its not that old am surprised no one mentioned Chatham Dockyard est in 16 century it was of importance to the navy. They still make rope lines there, or they did when I was last🤗 there.

Question of the Day?

Yepp yeep;
Was again valuable to listen to the dry historical subject matter.
Our history teacher was able to tell the story in such an exciting way that we forgot all about the break!
With today's possibilities, this can be shown even more visibly. Teachers used to be respected. . . . well

Question of the Day?

Torodog not sure if the lusitania was about in 1588???
#1944

Question of the Day?

Well that was a bit of a teaser! But to have Titanic and Lusitania as options, well it has made my day!

Things are back to normal, us oldies don't like change, but not because I don't want to changez, it is just that the younger ones have a habit of screwing it all up!

Thank you Herman! But, truth be told, these particular printings are a bit weak in the eyes. So sunglasses will forgive many missteps in my figure painting skills! 😂

After gagging on the last few questions, I ran down to the shop and painted up my 1:16 USCG crew for my upcoming Dumas build. It seemed to have changed my luck a bit! 😉

Question of the Day?

I got me deviation mixed up with me variation. Deviation is the effect the ship it's self has on the compass. As soon as I went for the wrong answer I remembered the little rhyme.
"Variation West, compass best.
Variation East compass least."
If it don't fit, use a hammer to make it fit....

Question of the Day?

I think the question could have been better worded, such as, "What is the term for the difference between magnetic north and true north" then I might have got it right 😀

Question of the Day?

I too picked the wrong answer, (b). I was about to say that declination was the correct answer but I see that magnetic variation is sometimes used interchangeably. I believe declination is most often used particularly on this side of the pond.

Question of the Day?

The Answers here mentioned 'Lake Chad'.. I was there (Chad) on business many years back and from all the odd things I saw, there were dozens of stalls along the side of the roads, selling Gasoline out of any glass bottles they could find.. (milk, wine even beer bottles) I asked the driver "why bottles and why is the gasoline RED?" He replied "Its the easiest way for us to sell it and its RED to stop the children drinking it"!!

Go figure.......

I've been there also. I thought Nairobi looked a little "rough".

After I got home, I visited Philadelphia, then I realized Nairobi was really pretty nice.

Question of the Day?

Bin there dun that.
No T shirts available to buy though, probably coz it was only a few years after the end of the Idi Amin (Dada) era and the country and Kampala/Entebbe were still in a mess.🙄 Fortunately Sheraton were quick of the mark building a decent hotel in Kampala.

Curious flight from Nairobi to Entebbe.
I had a window seat, by virtue of being quick off the mark in the free for all rush for a decent seat. I was a few years and adventures younger back then😉
An 'ample' lady then occupied 'both' seats to my left, with a box of LIVE CHICKENS on her lap😮
I ended up feeding them my somewhat dried up sandwich 'in flight lunch'.
The sandwich reminded me of historical British Rail sandwiches, banana shaped.
Just when you think you've seen everything!!
Cheers, Doug😎

The answers are OK it’s the question that is wrong.
It should be “Which is not a sea route connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean”
Answer “ The Cape Route”

Question of the Day?

Hi cashrc. I have similar problems with my iPad. It has latest update etc and is only 1 year old. If I add wrong photo to a blog and need to delete it, the site shuts down and when I open up all the photos have gone and I have to start again!!, adding the photos. another quirk is if scrolling through the forum I happen to catch the “ post reply” tab along the bottom of the screen it will not delete when pressing the X button, this just shuts the site down. On opening up its still there, the reply page is still open and will minimise and will only go if I post it blank or comment,!!
