Question of the Day?

I checked on the Internet and they vote for the Soryu class from Japan.

Before that I thought the Kilo class was the best.

Question of the Day?

Thanks Dad, I remembered that one. You can remove your foot from my ass now. 😂😂😂

The Chinese are the world leader in diesel electric craft (SSK). They have 9 SSN's (Nuclear powered attack) and 7 SSBN's (Nuclear Ballistic missile). They also routinely purchase older Russian subs.

Question of the Day?

Hi the site I picked on said Submarines used in defence. Which is what all countries would claim! You would hardly expect them to say they were for attacking purposes. There are a lot around Korea and the Sea of Japant.

I would presume that as there are very few professional submarines, that was what the question was about..

I did see one operating in the Canary Islands it was bright yellow and descended to about 50 feet or so to look at the fishes! At the time it was £40 a trip and that was about 12 years ago.

You can of course buy one it is a bit at the high end of extravagant though.

But Hey! for all I know you might be a billionaire slumming it!

Is this military submarines or all types including exploration and other types of submersibles. What is the definition of a submarine - something that can travel beneath water?

Question of the Day?

Strictly speaking Dead Reckoning (nor any of the other options) does not plot 'a course'.
Rather it plots the estimated position at the time of the calculation.
The 'course' you have steered is the compass heading you have followed.

Question of the Day?

And got it right...right in the middle of a brutal storm here in Connecticut. But, still have electric to get online and (thankfully) to keep the sump pumps going. Batten down the hatches, prime the bilge pumps, and damn the torpedoes. I'm going to have to "coil up my ropes and anchor here until better weather doth appear." 😉

Have another wee dram, and it might auto correct the navigation, that is if you can find the right bottle.

In the question it says down wind in light winds 😂

Question of the Day?

I certainly wouldn't chose to use a spinnaker unless the wind and wave conditions were favourable. If the wind is strong and variable the spinnaker could destabilise the yacht.

Question of the Day?

Mind you, with the new racing foil boats, the spinnaker would give an enormous lift onto the foils which would stablise the boat, but I have to agree with the other comments that I would not use a spinnaker to stabalise the boat unless it was a reasonable wind with a swell, when the spinnaker can assist in stablising.

Question of the Day?

I agree with singing... with a spinnaker up the yacht is vulnerable to small changes in wind direction and it is mainly for light winds only.

I anticipated the wrong answer and was marked as correct

As my score descends even lower, life is getting confusing. I hope we do not get fake questions as well!

Question of the Day?

Hi All, bit late replying here, but I’ll swap yesterdays answer to Endeavor later today or tomorrow (busy days at the moment!) so you’ll be honoured with the point for the 15th once I get around to it 👍

Question of the Day?

I went for Endeavour.
So this also makes Wikipedia wrong.
I had thought that Cook went on the Endeavour from history at school.
I have just Googled it and this is Wikipedia's answer.
"The first voyage of James Cook was a combined Royal Navy and Royal Society expedition to the south Pacific Ocean aboard HMS Endeavour, from 1768 to 1771"
So is the south Pacific Ocean Not the same Ocean?? surely it's all one Ocean 🤔

Question of the Day?

Had the red and the blue transposed in my mind; i.e. blue square in the centre of a red frame!
Seems the correct response to the described flag would be to 'Render medical assistance' and call the Coastguard for a doctor.
Flag in the pic (W - Whiskey) flown alone signifies 'Require Medical Assistance', as shown in the table Mike posted. So nowt to do with diving!?🙄
One lives and learns😉

PS Designer of the W flag musta bin Irish, a Bushmills fan perhaps?😋

Question of the Day?

Hmm!
Another deja vu 🙄
I recall we already had this debate about a year ago.
Stephen did warn us, when he made changes to the question selection, that we may see some repeats.
Can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday but a year ago ...
IMHO the correct answer here would be 'A'. The flag described does not appear to exist.
