Don't worry Colin it was pretty awful!
I can't believe it ran for 3 series, unless you were a fan of Kate O'Mara of course?

Should a shooting suit suit as a shooting suit should suit,
Then that shooting suit is suitable to shoot in.

But.. Should that shooting suit not suit as a shooting should suit,
Then the man who made the shooting suit needs shooting!

Question of the Day?

Isolated danger marks carry a flashing white light, usually with two spheres as topmarks...
If it don't fit, use a hammer to make it fit....
#1243

Question of the Day?

A flashing white light, say a strobe, could also signify a rescue device such as a life ring.
#1242

Question of the Day?

Didn't have a scooby doo, but personally would stay clear of something I'm not sure about, but the inquisitive side said the other 3 😁
#1241

Question of the Day?

I disagree with the possible answers to todays question. A flashing white light normally is in deep water clear of obstacles and indicates the start of a channel. If it is not flashing, it is probably the stern light of another vessel.

Hi Edw every time I ask the younger generation what it means I get this rolling of the eyes. I know I am half a century older than them but I do like to keep informed.

Question of the Day?

Just remembered what I had forgotten or was it overlooked.

Today used to be Trafalgar Day!

Does something that happened 218 years ago still have any relevance?

What about that for your alternate Q of the D?

Apologies to France and Spain of course, well that is my woke bit done.

Question of the Day?

Hi yes memory, I am always wondering what I have forgotten and then I remember something and wonder if that was what I had forgotten?

The result is I frequently find I have 2 of various things, 1 lost the other unopened.

I wonder whether I should follow the precepts of a chap I knew at work who always had a clean desk. We were very envious of that! But on being questioned about it he said that he threw everything away and relied on a follow up phone call to work out what may have been important.

So all I have to do now is decide whether to answer the phone!

Question of the Day?

Stephen,
Why don't you use dates instead of arithmetic for the '30 days' calculation?
E.g 'current date -30'. Works in Excel and similar spreadsheets.
Working to the absolute second reminds me of Lt.Cmdr. Data in Star Trek, the next generation.😉 "At warp 9 six hours 29 minutes and 37 seconds captain". "Engage!"
Cheers, Doug😎

#1225

Question of the Day?

That's exactly what I was wondering Roy👍
The 'cut off' seems to be x.5. So for example 99.49 would appear as 99% and 99.5 (or 99.501?) would be shown as 100%. Must run some tests.
E.g. what were your exact numbers before and after this mysterious 'went down 1%' occurrence Roy?
What I've tried so far doesn't support this theory, but I don't know how many digits after the decimal point Stephens calculation allows.
Cheers, Doug😎

#1224

Question of the Day?

Maybe it is an oddity of rounding up or down in the arithmetic?

Roy
#1223

Question of the Day?

Hi Stephen.
Ah! Therefore the calculation is made on the responses of the last thirty days, not on the absolute total. I knew it.
#1222

Question of the Day?

I can confirm the calculation if anyone wants to figure out why a number would go down if answering correctly?

Player Average % = Total Correct (last 30 days) / Total Answered (last 30 days) x 100

I can't think of a reason either. The only oddity that I can see might occur is in the 30 day calculation, which isn't whole days, it's to the second... 606024*30

I'll leave this brain teaser out there 😎

Question of the Day?

Hi Roy, the percentage of your personal score can mathematically never decrease if the added answer is correct.

Maybe it's a bug in the system used, I can't explain it.
Calculate the percentage of correct answers out of the total number of answers provided is very easy, I would say banal.
#1220

Question of the Day?

Hi Alessandro, It is just my score so I agree not easy to explain and todays question which I got right has me at the same score. I can understand that as another right answer drops out of the calculation.

The country score I ignore. The only way to come top is to have just one entry and that person get all answers correct.

Question of the Day?

Hi Roy.
Does the 1% reduction refer to the overall calculation of the nation or to your personnel?

If it refers to the nation, then it is normal because you answered well but there could be other compatriots who answered badly and lower the average.

If it's referring to your personal score, then it's actually very strange.
It can't be explained.

I noticed something stranger, some had two wrong answers (if I remember correctly) and now only one, how is this possible?
#1217

Question of the Day?

i agree entirely!!!!
when the answer is wrong you go down, bit if it's correct you stay on the same number of points 😉😉

Question of the Day?

One of my favorites, Cargoes, from John Masefield, it paints a perfect picture in words...
Quinquireme of Nineveh from distant Ophir,
Rowing home to haven in sunny Palestine,
With a cargo of ivory,
And apes and peacocks,
Sandalwood, cedarwood, and sweet white wine.

Stately Spanish galleon coming from the Isthmus,
Dipping through the Tropics by the palm-green shores,
With a cargo of diamonds,
Emeralds, amythysts,
Topazes, and cinnamon, and gold moidores.

Dirty British coaster with a salt-caked smoke stack,
Butting through the Channel in the mad March days,
With a cargo of Tyne coal,
Road-rails, pig-lead,
Firewood, iron-ware, and cheap tin trays.
If it don't fit, use a hammer to make it fit....
