Question of the Day?

Hi all, recently got interested in 'deep history' and we are in the Holocene period now which is from the last Ice age about 11,800 years ago. The word could translate to Entirely New.

The last major lot of ice to melt was in N. America around the Great Lakes but a much bigger area. It was an enormous volume of water and sea levels rose dramatically the land bridge from Alaska to Russia was wiped out. The way we were connected around Norfolk down past the Thames to Europe was flooded and the North Sea and English channel were created.

So the question answer was in the question! The UK became islands away from the continent. Before this the Thames and the Rhine came together before discharging into the sea.

Probably the Woolly mammoths and the like became extinct when the ice had gone because it snowed so much and vegetation was not available.

I hope the above might be interesting to you. Deep History is a recent Cable/Satelite programme, well presented and produced.

Regards
Roy

Question of the Day?

Is it that computer games are more in the mind of people that the extinction of the dinosaurs having been there for several 100 million years?

Yucatan peninsula is where the lump from space landed and caused another mass extinction of life. That was the 5th big extinction.
There was another more recent but not as bad. Anyone know when? Also What effect did it have on the British Isles?

Question of the Day?

It did occur to me that in the maritime past there was harsh punishment, strict discipline and these days we also get severe weather conditions.
I did have a stern word with myself not to question the answers.

Question of the Day?

Hi Dougal, in everyone that has ever been alive, those are modern times to them. I bet there were some tearaways in Egypt who waved what ever number of fingers at authority and went hell for leather down the Nile, crocodiles or not!

Question of the Day?

I recall vaguely the beer festivals in Munich. My lasting memory is watching the rafts going down the Isar, viewed from the English garden. A big keg of beer and a big chap with a punting pole.

Morning, Doug,
My question to you: is the Munich beer still cool? Despite the heat?
Lukewarm beer is supposed to be undrinkable . .
Oh, I almost forgot! The right answer again, was a bit clearer than others.

Now you're testing my school geography, updated by odd bits of news over the years, but I'm pleased to know that my recollection of Sweden occupying the whole of the western side of the Baltic to be correct. So I've not totally lost it, yet !😉
